종래의 재래식 잠수복은 소매자락의 선단에 결착되는 연질소매 고무를 강력접착제로서 접착시켜 일체가 되게하여 사용하였기 때문에 잠수작업도중 부주의로 인해 소매고무의 일부분이 찢어질 경우에는 일일히 수리 공장까지 무거운 잠수복을 운반하여 수리하여야 했던 것이다. 그리하여 이때 찢어진 소매고무를 절취제거하고 그 자리에 새로운 소매고무를 연결접착하여 사용하여야만 했었고, 또한, 잠수작업 과정에서 한류(寒流)를 당하여 방수장갑을 끼지 아니하면 않될 경우에도 잠수복을 수리공장에 까지 가지고가서 소매고무를 절취제거한 후에 이에 방수장갑을 연결하기 위해 이를 접착하여 사용했으므로 무거운 잠수복을 일일히 운반하는 번잡과 절취제거 및 접착수리하는 시간만큼의 잠수작업 시간을 낭비할 뿐더러 이때 절취된 소매고무는 재사용이 불가능하여 이는 폐기처분케 되므로 이에 따른 막대한 경제적 손실도 많았다.Conventional wetsuits are used by bonding the soft sleeve rubber, which is bound to the tip of the sleeves, as a strong adhesive so that they are integrated into one piece.
