The present disclosure describes multifunctional athletic shoes and/or methods of making multifunctional athletic shoes.

As used herein, durable rubber may be or include soft hiking rubber for good wet and dry grip. The durable rubber may be or include a blend of bromobutyl, natural and/or polybutadiene rubber. By way of example, the durable rubber may be or include a rubber composition exhibiting one or more of the following: Hardness 60A (+/-5), DIN Abrasion Max Loss 180　mm3, Pants Tear 16N/mm, Min Tensile 11MPa, 400 % Minimum Elongation at Break or Maximum Resilience 28%.

As used herein, the first climbing rubber (eg, tacky rubber) may be or include a rubber composite exhibiting high tear resistance, low elasticity and low (30%) modulus for optimal friction. Climbing rubber may be or include high cis polybutadiene and high level bromobutyl rubber with natural rubber. As an example, the climbing rubber may be or include a rubber composition exhibiting one or more of the following: Hardness 70A (+/- 5) DIN Wear Max 220 mm3 Loss Trouser Tear Min 18N/mm, Min Tensile 11 Mpa, 400% Minimum elongation at break or maximum resilience of 18%.

As used herein, the secondary climbing rubber may be or include a blend of one natural rubber, high cis polybutadiene rubber, and/or EPDM rubber. The second climbing rubber may have or include high elasticity, high tear resistance, weather resistance and ozone resistance. As an example, the second climbing rubber may be or include a rubber composition exhibiting one or more of the following: Hardness 62A (+/- 5) DIN Abrasion Max 120mm3 Loss, Trouser Tear 14N/mm, Min, Min Tensile 11 Mpa, or 450% minimum elongation at break.

As shown in FIGS. 1-7 , an exemplary multifunctional athletic shoe 100 may include an outsole 110 . The outsole 110 may be configured to engage with the ground. The outsole 110 may be configured to engage a climbing surface such as a climbing hold. Outsole 110 may include one or more zones or surfaces configured for a specific use, such as skating or climbing. For example, the outsole 110 may be configured to have durability capable of supporting use as an athletic shoe such as a street shoe or a skate shoe. As a further example, outsole 110 may include one or more areas or surfaces configured to support climbing. As such, the outsole 110 can be configured for everyday street wear or skate wear while providing special zones or surfaces that facilitate climbing activities.

The outsole 110 may include a heel region 112 disposed adjacent the first end 114 of the outsole 110 . Heel region 112 may include one or more of a durable rubber and a secondary climbing rubber. The heel region 112 may be formed from a region of durable rubber and a region of second climbing rubber. As an example, the bottom surface 116 of the heel region 112 may include a tread portion 116a and a smooth portion 116b. Tread portion 116a may include, consist essentially of, or be formed from durable rubber. The smooth portion 116b may include, consist essentially of, or be formed from the second climbing rubber. The heel region 112 of the outsole 110 may extend from the inner surface 162 of the outsole 110 to the outer surface 164 of the outsole 110 . As an example, heel region 112 may include a rounded rim that transitions from vertical to horizontal.

The outsole 110 may include a forefoot region 118 disposed adjacent the second end 120 of the outsole 110 opposite the first end 114 . The forefoot region 118 may include a tacky rubber such as the first climbing rubber. The forefoot region 118 may consist essentially of a first climbing rubber. The forefoot region 118 may be formed from a first climbing rubber. Forefoot region 118 may include a smooth bottom surface 122 . A forefoot region 118 of the outsole 110 may extend from an inner surface 162 of the outsole 110 to an outer surface 164 of the outsole 110 .

The outsole 110 may include a durability zone 124 disposed in the midfoot portion 125 of the outsole 110 interposed between the heel region 112 and the forefoot region 118 . Durable zone 124 may include durable rubber. Durable zone 124 may consist essentially of durable rubber. Durable zone 124 may be formed of durable rubber. The durability zone 124 can include a bottom surface 126 that includes a tread pattern 128 . The tread pattern 128 of the bottom surface 126 of the durability zone 124 may include a plurality of alternative ridges 128a and channels 128b. The durability zone 124 of the outsole 110 may extend from the inner surface 162 of the outsole 110 to the outer surface 164 of the outsole 110 .

The exemplary multifunctional athletic shoe 100 may include a midsole 130 disposed adjacent to an outsole 110 . The midsole 130 may include a comfort portion 132 . Comfort portion 132 may include a foam material. The foam material of comfort portion 132 may include ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). Other foams and materials may be used. Comfort portion 132 may have a recess 134 formed therein.

The exemplary multifunctional athletic shoe 100 may include a brim plate 136 . Brim plate 136 may be disposed adjacent to midsole 130 . As an example, brim plate 136 may be disposed at least partially in recess 134 of midsole 130 . The rim plate 136 may generally have a tear drop shape. The rim plate 136 may be a rigid plate. The edging plate 136 may include one or more slits to provide flexibility to the rigid plate. However, various shapes may be used. Brim plate 136 may be sized to extend from midfoot portion 137 of midsole 130 to forefoot portion 138 of midsole 130 .

The exemplary multifunctional athletic shoe 100 may include an upper 140 disposed adjacent to an outsole 110 , a midsole 130 , or both. Upper 140 may be coupled to outsole 110 . Upper 140 may include a vamp portion or vamp 142 , a medial quarter portion 144 , a lateral quarter portion 146 and a heel portion 148 . Portions 142 - 148 of upper 140 are illustrative and do not limit the components of upper 140 . Upper 140 may include various parts or components.

The exemplary multifunctional athletic shoe 100 may include a heel grip 150 . The heel grip 150 may have a cup shape composed of a concave cup to be disposed on the first end 114 of the outsole 110 . Heel grip 150 may be disposed over at least a portion of heel region 112 of outsole 110 and at least a portion of heel portion 148 of upper 140 . Heel grip 150 may form at least a portion of heel region 112 . The heel grip 150 may include a second climbing rubber. Heel grip 150 may consist essentially of a second climbing rubber. The heel grip 150 may be formed of a second climbing rubber. The heel grip 150 may include a rounded rim 152 that transitions from vertical to horizontal in the shape of a cup. The bottom surface of the heel grip 150 may include the bottom surface 116 of the heel region 112 of the outsole 110 . The bottom surface of the heel grip may include a tread portion and a smooth portion. Heel grip 150 may be formed as a one-piece molded piece.

The exemplary multifunctional athletic shoe 100 may include a toe grip 154 disposed adjacent to a vamp 142 of an upper 140 . Toe grip 154 may be disposed over only a portion of vamp 142 . Toe grip 154 may be configured to cover only medial portion 156 of vamp 142 of upper 140 . The toe grip 154 may include a second climbing rubber. The toe grip may consist essentially of the second climbing rubber. The toe grip 154 may be formed of a second climbing rubber. Toe grip 154 may include a channel 158 formed therein.

The exemplary multifunctional athletic shoe 100 may include an adjustable strap 160 . An adjustable strap 160 may be disposed over a portion of upper 140 and coupled to a medial surface 162 of outsole 110 and an exterior surface 164 of outsole 110 . Adjustable strap 160 may be configured to control the fit of upper 140 around a wearer's foot.

a heel region disposed adjacent the first end of the outsole;

the outsole, wherein the forefoot zone and the durability zone exhibit different coefficients of friction from each other;
an upper coupled to the outsole and including a vamp, an inner quarter portion, an outer quarter portion, and a heel portion;

The multifunctional athletic shoe according to claim 10, wherein the heel grip includes a cup-shaped rounded rim that converts from vertical to horizontal, and a bottom surface of the heel grip includes a tread portion and a smooth portion. 12. A multifunctional athletic shoe according to any one of claims 1 to 11, wherein the toe grip is configured to cover only the inner portion of the vamp of the upper. 13. A multifunctional athletic shoe according to any one of claims 1 to 12, wherein the toe grip includes a channel formed therein. 4.
