일반적으로, 마스크(mask)는 코와 입 등 호흡기를 가리는 물건으로, 공기 중의 미세먼지가 코를 통하여 흡입되고, 입으로부터 비산되는 물질을 막기 위한 것이다. 산업화가 가속화되면서 환경오염물질의 지속적인 증가와 황사로 인한 미세먼지 등이 증가하는 추세이고, 여기에 신종 바이러스의 발현으로 인한 위협이 높아짐에 따라 더 높은 수준의 위생용 마스크가 요구되고 있다. 이에 따라 친환경적인 냄새제거를 위한 구리성분이 함유된 성분을 마스크에 자동화 분사하는 기술을 바탕으로 고성능 친환경 마스크를 만드는 것이다. 친환경 마스크 부분을 설명하기에 앞서 이러한 마스크와 관련하여 무수히 많은 종류가 제시되어 있으며, 이러한 마스크들을 간단하게 설명해본다. 특허문헌 1(대한민국 등록특허 제10-1201469호)에는 마스크본체의 전면중앙엔 배기모듈이 마련되고 상기 배기모듈의 한쪽 또는 양쪽엔 흡기모듈이 마련된 것으로 착용자의 호흡에 따라 흡기되는 외부 유입 공기는 흡기모듈을 통해 유입되고, 호흡된 공기는 배기모듈을 통해 배출되도록 하는 것이 그 특징이다. 그러나 상기한 바와 같은 구성으로 된 특허문헌 1의 마스크는 마스크본체의 흡기모듈과 배기모듈을 통해서만 호흡, 즉 숨을 들어 마시고 내쉬는 것을 수행할 때, 흡기모듈이 작은 사이즈의 다층으로 된 흡기필터를 통해서만 외부공기의 흡입이 가능하므로 평상시와 같이 편안한 들숨이 곤란할 수 있다는 폐단을 내포하고 있다. 특허문헌 2(대한민국 등록특허 제10-1530869호)에는 흡기마스크 전면부의 좌측 또는 우측영역에 배기밸브가 구비되고 상기 배기밸브는 앞커버와 뒷커버 사이에 차단막이 설치된 것으로 착용자의 호흡에 따라 흡기되는 외부유입 공기는 상기 흡기 마스크 전면부를 통해 필터 처리되고, 호흡된 공기는 상기 배기 밸브를 통해 배출 되도록하는 것이 그 특징이다.In general, a mask is an object that covers a respiratory system, such as a nose and a mouth, in order to prevent fine dust in the air from being inhaled through the nose and scattering from the mouth.
