Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for diversification of a traffic path of a wireless communication system, which can distribute traffic, concentrated on a wireless access network and a packet core network, to another network. According to the present invention, when an available wireless AP is detected in a wireless LAN system, a mobile terminal additionally sets up a load distribution path between the wireless AP and a serving gateway (S-gateway) of a packet core network based on a multipath TCP (MPTCP) in addition to a path set up along with a base station of a wireless access network. Then, the mobile terminal transmits and receives traffic to and from the packet core network via the load distribution path. Furthermore, the mobile terminal transmits and receives traffic to and from an Internet server via a load distribution path when the load distribution path set up between the S-gateway and the Internet server based on the MPTCP is detected.

Description

[0001] METHOD FOR TRAFFIC PATH DIVERSITY IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM [0002]

The present invention relates to a traffic path multiplexing method in a wireless communication system for exchanging information with a mobile terminal.

In recent mobile communication services, wireless data traffic is explosively increasing due to rapid use of wireless Internet due to rapid spread of smart phones and performance improvement. In order to cope with the increase of traffic, the capacity and performance of the wireless access network and the packet core network are increased. However, there are many problems such as a huge investment cost and a failure to sufficiently cope with an increase in traffic.

As a variety of solutions for solving such a situation, wireless LAN (WLAN) interworking or offloading technologies that distribute or convert traffic concentrated on a wireless access network and a packet core network to another network are recently studied and developed. Is being developed.

The WLAN interworking method refers to a method of using a wireless Internet service by additionally activating a WLAN interworking function in addition to a mobile communication matching function in a specific time and space condition using a mobile terminal having both a mobile communication and a WLAN matching function. Of course, the wireless LAN access point to which the mobile terminal accesses may be included in a wireless LAN interworking environment provided by a service provider subscribing to the mobile communication service. Since the WLAN interworking method uses a service in place of a mobile communication system by selecting a WLAN system in a situation where the load state of the system is not known, the service quality is deteriorated according to the load state of the WLAN system May occur.

The load balancing method is a method for distributing the traffic processing concentrated on the packet core network of the mobile communication system. The load balancing method is classified into a local IP access (LIPA) method and a selected IP traffic offload (SIPTO) method. The LIPA scheme separates traffic from a base station connected to a mobile terminal, that is, within a radio access network. The SIPTO method separates traffic of a service selected separately from a gateway in the packet core network closest to the radio access network to which the mobile terminal is connected. In general, since a charged rate policy is applied to a packet transmitted / received via a non-load-balanced mobile communication system, a cost burden increases with an increase in traffic. However, when the load balancing method is used, a free charging policy may be applied to packets transmitted using the load balancing path according to the policy of the business operator, thereby reducing the mobile communication use fee.

United States Patent No. 2013/0242965

1 is a diagram illustrating an example of a wireless communication system according to an embodiment of the present invention.

1, the wireless communication system includes a wireless access network 200, an S-gateway 310, and a P-gateway (Packet Data Network-Gateway) 320 including a base station 210 The packet core network 300 may be configured as a packet core network.

The mobile terminal 100 accesses the base station 210 through the wireless interface to exchange information with the server 410 included in the Internet 400. [ The mobile terminal 100 is a terminal of a user accessing the base station 210.

The base station 210 provides a wireless interface to the mobile terminal 100 and performs a radio resource management function.

The base station 210 is connected to the S-gateway 310 via the S1 interface and transmits and receives data to and from the external network through the S-gateway 310 and the P-

The S-gateway 310 is an end point of the packet core network 300 and the RAN 200 and manages the path between the base station 210 and the P-gateway 320.

The P-gateway 320 controls the S-gateway 310 and performs an external network connection function such as the Internet 400 and the like. The P-gateway 320 also performs functions such as packet filtering, IP routing and forwarding, and IP address assignment of the mobile terminal 100.

The mobile terminal 100 is connected to the radio access network 200 through the base station 210 and is connected to the Internet 400 through the S-gateway 310 and the P-gateway 320 of the packet core network 300 And may exchange information with the server 410.

In this way, traffic related to all the mobile terminals 100 passes through the P-gateway 320 connected to the external network, so that the load on the packet core network 300 increases rapidly.

Hereinafter, an embodiment in which the load of the packet core network 300 can be reduced will be described in detail with reference to FIG.

2 is a diagram schematically illustrating a load distribution path of a wireless communication system according to an embodiment of the present invention.

2, the S-gateway 310 further sets a load balancing path of the packet core network 300 in addition to the path in the packet core network 300, and transmits traffic related to the specific service to the packet core network 300 To the server 410 of the Internet 400 through the load balancing path of the Internet 400. At this time, the load distribution path of the packet core network 300 is established between the S-gateway 310 and the server 410 based on multipath TCP (MPTCP). Therefore, simultaneous multiplex transmission is possible through the set path in the packet core network 300 and the load balancing path of the packet core network 300. In addition, the traffic related to a specific service is transmitted / received through a path established between the S-gateway 310 and the server 410, so that the load of the P-gateway 320 can be reduced.

The S-gateway 310 is connected to the mobile terminal 100 and the radio access network 200 in order to reduce the load on the radio access network 200 by using the WLAN system separately from the load distribution path of the packet core network 300. [ And transmits and receives traffic to and from the mobile terminal 100 through the load distribution path of the radio access network 200. [ The load balancing path of the radio access network 200 is set between the mobile terminal 100 and the wireless AP 510 of the wireless LAN system 500 and the S-gateway 310 of the packet core network 300 based on MPTCP And the load distribution path of the packet core network is based on the MPTCP based on the S-gateway 310 of the packet core network 300 via the wireless AP 510 of the wireless LAN system 500 and the server 410 of the Internet 400 . Therefore, simultaneous multiple transmission is possible through the set path in the radio access network 200 and the load distribution path of the radio access network 200. [

3 is a diagram illustrating a traffic path multiplexing method of the wireless communication system shown in FIG.

Referring to FIG. 3, the mobile terminal 100 allocates and manages at least two IP addresses from the P-gateway 320 of the packet core network 300. An MPTCP-based load balancing path is established between the wireless AP 510 and the S-gateway 310 based on the IP address of the mobile terminal 100. Accordingly, the S-gateway 310 can recognize the IP address of the mobile terminal 100. Also, a load distribution path of the packet core network 300 separated from the packet core network 300 is set between the S-gateway 310 and the server 410. The load distribution path of the packet core network 300 may be set based on MPTCP.

In general, traffic is exchanged between the mobile terminal 100 and the server 410 via the radio access network 200 and the packet core network 300 (S302, S304, and S306). Of course, the load distribution path of the packet core network 300 established between the S-gateway 310 and the server 410 can be operated by the policy of the operator.

Meanwhile, when the mobile terminal 100 generates a specific traffic, that is, a traffic likely to cause a load on the wireless communication system (S308), the mobile terminal 100 converts the specific traffic into MPTCP-based traffic according to a user's selection or a policy of the operator , And transmits the MPTCP-based traffic to the S-gateway 310 (S310). At the same time, the mobile terminal 100 searches for an available wireless AP 510 (S316).

The S-gateway 310 selects a load distribution path of the packet core network 300 between the S-gateway 310 and the server 410 (S312), and transmits the MPTCP-based traffic to the packet core network 300 To the load balancing path (S314).

If the available wireless AP 510 is not found, the mobile terminal 100 transmits the MPTCP-based traffic to the existing path. That is, traffic is transmitted using only the load balancing path of the packet core network 300 between the S-gateway 310 and the server 410, so that consumption of paying packets is reduced on the subscriber side. As a result, The load is reduced. This type of utilization can be determined by the policy of the operator. The use of a load balancing path reduces the number of payload packets and reduces the load and charge, but the quality of service may not be guaranteed to some extent. Conversely, when the load balancing path is not used, that is, when the packet is routed through the P-gateway 320, a charge for the packet occurs but the quality of service is guaranteed to some extent.

Meanwhile, when the available wireless AP 510 is searched (S316), the mobile terminal 100, the wireless AP 510, and the S-gateway 310 of the packet core network 300 MPTCP-based traffic is transmitted / received to an MPTCP-based load balancing path (S318, S320). In this case, traffic is not transmitted by the MPTCP management procedure to the path using the existing radio access network 200, but the path is maintained.

The S-gateway 310 receiving the MPTCP-based traffic transmitted from the mobile terminal 100 via the wireless AP 510 selects the corresponding load distribution path when the load distribution path of the packet core network 300 is configured (S322), and the MPTCP-based traffic may be transmitted through the MPTCP-based load balancing path established between the S-gateway 310 and the server 410 (S324).

As such, after the MPTCP-based load balancing path is established in the radio access network 200 and the packet core network 300, the mobile terminal 100 transmits the load balancing path of the radio access network 200 and the load balancing path of the packet core network 300, And receives traffic from and to the server 410 of the Internet 400 through the load distribution path of the Internet 400.

The mobile terminal 100 periodically checks the state of the load distribution path of the radio access network 200. [

The mobile terminal 100 can determine to release the load distribution path of the radio access network 200 based on the MPTCP when the load distribution path of the radio access network 200 does not satisfy the predetermined level.

The mobile terminal 100 releases the load balancing path set with the wireless AP 510 and releases the load balancing path set with the wireless AP 510 and the S-gateway 310 as well.

When the load distribution path of the radio access network 200 is terminated, the mobile terminal 100 accesses the Internet 200 through the base station path of the radio access network 200 in which the MPTCP scheme is maintained and the load distribution path of the packet core network 300 400 receives traffic from and to the server 410 and receives Internet service.

When the state of the load distribution path of the radio access network 200 satisfies a certain level of criterion or a load distribution path of the new radio access network 200 is found, the mobile terminal 100 transmits the radio access network 200 ) Can be newly set. That is, it is possible to search the available wireless APs repeatedly and newly set the load distribution path of the radio access network 200 using the above-described procedure and contents.

As described above, the mobile terminal 100 simultaneously operates the path using the radio access network 200, that is, the base station 210 and the load distribution path using the wireless LAN system, that is, the wireless AP 510, It is possible to distribute the traffic concentrated in the packet core network 300 and the packet core network 300.

Here, the service quality of the path using the base station 210 may vary depending on the movement state of the mobile terminal 100. When the mobile station moves away from a specific base station, the signal quality decreases and the quality of service decreases. Therefore, the signal provided by the new base station increases and service quality can be improved. In this case, the wireless communication system can perform the procedure of changing the base station. That is, the mobile terminal 100 resets the traffic path of the wireless communication system, and this process or situation is referred to as "path diversity ". That is, the path diversity may mean a state or a procedure for changing the base station.

4 is a diagram illustrating a traffic path resetting method of the wireless communication system shown in FIG.

Referring to FIG. 4, the mobile terminal 100 periodically checks the state of the wireless path between the base station 210 of the radio access network 200 and the load distribution path of the radio access network 200 (S402). At this time, if the path condition of the radio access network 200 does not satisfy a certain level criterion, the path of the radio communication system can be reset according to the path diversity procedure. If the path condition of the radio access network 200 does not satisfy the predetermined level, the mobile terminal 100 determines to release the load distribution path of the radio access network 200 in use based on the MPTCP (S404).

The mobile terminal 100 releases the load balancing path set up with the wireless AP 510 in step S406 and the wireless AP 510 also releases the load balancing path set in the S-gateway 310 in step S408. The S-gateway 310 also releases the load balancing path of the packet core network 300 and the server 410 (S410).

After that, the mobile terminal 100 re-establishes a route with the new base station of the radio access network 200 and the new S-gateway in the packet core network 300 according to the path diversity processing procedure, ) Can continue to send and receive traffic while maintaining Internet service.

After the path reconfiguration of the wireless communication system is completed, the mobile terminal 100 confirms the available wireless AP, sets the load distribution path of the wireless access network 200 based on the method described with reference to FIG. 3, And the S-gateway 310 through the load distribution path of the S-gateway 310.

The path management unit 120 sets and releases the path of the radio access network 200 and the load distribution path of the radio access network 200. [ The path management unit 120 can set and release the path of the radio access network 200 and the load distribution path of the radio access network 200 based on MPTCP.

[ For example, in the case where the traffic is transmitted to / received from the server 410 of the Internet 400 as the load distribution path of the packet core network 300, And the load distribution path of the packet core network 300 can be selected as a path of traffic to be transmitted and received.

The path management unit 314 sets and releases the path of the packet core network 300 and the load distribution path of the packet core network 300. [ The path management unit 120 can set and release the path of the packet core network 300 and the load distribution path of the packet core network 300 based on MPTCP.
