Abstract

The present invention relates to transmission and reception methods and an apparatus thereof for providing a high-definition digital broadcast, and more specifically to a high-definition broadcast service method using the 3D broadcast system based on the existing dual stream. According to the present invention, a viewer can receive more improved high-definition DTV service through the service of a digital broadcast, having the definition more than two times higher than that of the current DTV broadcast service, without separate change of the 3DTV broadcast system based on dual stream.

Description

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PROVIDING HIGH-QUALITY DIGITAL BROADCASTING

The present invention relates to a high-quality DTV broadcasting service method using a conventional dual stream based 3D broadcasting system.

The following drawings are schematic diagrams of the currently established ATSC A104 (standard for service compatible terrestrial 3D broadcasting service) and a 3D broadcasting system.

The ATSC standard, which serves bi-stable 3D images using a reference video encoder and an additional video encoder, switches to a separate encoder when the 2D image is served, or encodes the same image as the reference image to the additional image encoder Indicating that the additional data is not 3D, and displays it to the viewer

If the additional image encoder is stopped without switching to another encoder, a screen flicker may occur when switching from 3D to 2D, or reception may not be possible depending on the receiver.

In addition, according to the existing DTV broadcasting system, a 30 frame image per second is encoded in the first encoder and the second encoder, thereby displaying the conventional DTV receiver at 30 fps. However, it is possible to display 60Hz or 120Hz through various image signal processing in the DTV receiver, but the original signal itself has a limit of 30Hz.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An object of the present invention is to solve the above-mentioned problems and to provide a DTV broadcasting of a higher picture quality by directly using a dual stream system for 3D broadcasting.

A dual stream based 3DTV broadcasting system can provide a digital broadcasting service that has twice the image quality of the current DTV broadcasting service without any modification, thereby enabling viewers to receive a further improved high-definition DTV service.

In the 3D mode, the reference image is encoded by the first encoder, the additional image is encoded by the second encoder, and in the 2D mode, the odd (even) frame of the high definition image frame (ex, 60 fps) (Odd) frame is encoded by the second encoder so that the 3DTV currently being sold operates like a 3D mode. The present invention is applied not only to an independent dual encoder applied to provide a 3DTV service but also to an encoder such as MVC (Multi-View Coding).

In an embodiment, when 3D broadcasting is applied using MVC, the left and right images are encoded into 50i or 60i, and odd (even) and even (odd) By inputting, 3DTV can watch video with twice the image quality than existing DTV.
