벌통의 소재는 인체무해한 PP소재를 사용한다. 금형제작을 통하여 개폐판부, 뚜껑부, 하부를 제작한다. 두 개의 고무밴드를 이용하여 개폐판이 항상 뚜껑의 중앙에 위치하도록 한다. 그렇게 하면 벌을 잡아 내기 위하여 양쪽 출구중 어느쪽을 사용하더라도 고무줄의 좌우 상호 탄력성에 의하여 개폐판은 자동적으로 중앙에 멈추게 된다. 그리고 벌을 잡아내는 출구는 1 ~ 1.5cm 정도의 크기로 하여 핀셋으로 벌을 잡아내거나 먹이를 공급하기에 용이하게 한다. 2-3과 2-4는 통내의 벌들이 벽을 타고 기어 올라 출구쪽으로 빨리 접근하지 못하도록 5mm 정도 높이의 턱(차단벽)을 설치해 주면 된다.
