Abstract
Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a broadcast communication technology, and more particularly, to an electronic program guide display technology.
With the advent of various digital broadcasting platforms such as IPTV and Web TV, there is a growing need for a service that serves as a guide for providing a point of contact between the audience and contents. One such service is the Electronic Program Guide (EPG). Here, the EPG refers to a broadcast program guide service that transmits program broadcast time, contents, performer information, etc. using a free frequency band or an additional channel of a television broadcast.
Conventional EPG display technology displays only broadcast program information for each channel provided by a content provider on a display device. The channel-specific program information provided by the content provider includes only static information such as broadcast time, title, and genre for each broadcast program, and dynamic information such as audience rating and preference information such as the number of times of watching / It does not contain. Since the EPG service according to the related art does not include preference information on a broadcast program, users have difficulty in deciding which program to watch and select from among many broadcast programs. In addition, it is difficult to provide a viewer-friendly EPG service.
The present invention provides a broadcast program preference display apparatus and method for displaying broadcast program preference information on an electronic program guide in order to make user's program selection easier and to provide viewer-friendly EPG service.
According to an aspect, a broadcast program preference display apparatus includes a broadcast information receiver for receiving broadcast information including basic information and preference information for each broadcast program from a broadcast system, An EPG generation unit for generating electronic program guide information including preference information based on the received broadcast information and user input information; And an EPG converting unit for converting the converted data to be displayable by the device and transmitting the converted data to the display device.
The present invention provides an electronic program guide including preference information about a broadcast program, so that the user can easily select a program by grasping the preference of the broadcast program.
In addition, by providing an EPG service including dynamic information such as audience rating and preference information such as the number of times of watching / recording reservation, it is possible to provide a viewer-friendly EPG service.

According to one embodiment, the basic information means static information about a broadcast program. For example, the basic information may be channel information and time information for a broadcast program. According to another embodiment, the basic information may be EPG information without the preference information provided by the broadcast content provider.
And, the preference information means dynamic information about a broadcast program which shows the interest and preference of the viewer for each broadcast program. For example, the preference information may be audience rating information and viewing / recording reservation count information.

FIG. 4 is a view illustrating an electronic program guide including broadcast program preference information according to a first exemplary embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating an electronic program guide including broadcast program preference information according to a second exemplary embodiment of the present invention. FIG. 6 is an exemplary diagram illustrating an electronic program guide including broadcast program preference information according to a third exemplary embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG.
Referring to FIG. 4, the EPG can indicate the preference of each broadcast program in a manner that changes the contrast, saturation, color, border, and the like of graphics and text. For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the program 3 differentiates the contrast, saturation, color, frame, and the like of figures and phrases from those of other programs so that the user can easily recognize that the preference of the program is different from other programs have. In this case, the contrast, saturation, color, and border of the figure and the phrase may mean various broadcast program preferences such as an audience rating and a viewing / recording reservation count. In addition, what criteria and manner of broadcasting program preference is to be expressed may be determined in advance by a content provider, or may be in accordance with a user-defined method.
Referring to FIG. 5, the EPG may indicate the preference of each broadcast program by inserting the preference information into a graphic form representing a broadcast program in a graph form. In FIG. 5, only one graph is inserted to display preference information, but two or more graphs may be inserted. In addition, it is possible for the content provider to follow the predetermined method and the user may arbitrarily decide how to express the type and quantity of the graph and the broadcasting program preference in what manner and manner.
Referring to FIG. 6, the EPG may indicate the preference of each broadcast program in a manner in which the preference information graph is arranged outside the graphic form of the broadcast program. This method can be utilized when the space inside a graphic object, which means a broadcast program, is short due to a short broadcast time of the broadcast program, or when there are various types of preferences to be displayed. It is also possible for the content provider to follow the predetermined method and to follow the user-defined method of specifying the manner and position of the graph, the broadcasting program preference, and the like.
7 is a flowchart illustrating a broadcast program preference display method according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to FIG. 7, the broadcasting program preference display method may include a broadcasting information receiving step S710, a user input information receiving step S730, an EPG generating step S750, and an EPG converting step S770.
First, in the broadcasting information receiving step, broadcasting information including basic information and preference information for each broadcasting program is received from the broadcasting system 110 (S710). Here, the basic information means static information about a broadcast program included in a conventional EPG. For example, the basic information may be channel information and time information for a broadcast program. In addition, the basic information may be in the form of EPG without the preference information provided by the broadcast content provider. Here, the preference information means dynamic information about a broadcast program, which indicates the degree of interest and preference of the viewer for each broadcast program. For example, the preference information may be audience rating information and viewing / recording reservation count information.
Next, the user input information receiving step receives the user input information on the display mode of the EPG and the reference selection from the user input device 150 (S730). Here, the user input information may include a method of inserting preference information for the broadcast program on the EPG and information on the insertion criterion.
Next, the EPG generating step generates EPG information including the preference information based on the received broadcast information and the received user input information (S750). According to an aspect, the EPG generation step (S750) may generate EPG information by combining basic information and preference information about the received broadcast program according to a predetermined criteria and method. According to another aspect, the EPG generating step S750 may generate EPG information by combining basic information and preference information of the received broadcast program according to a criterion and a method selected by an individual user. Here, examples of the EPG including the preference information generated and displayed on the
Next, the EPG conversion step converts the EPG information to be displayable on the display device and transmits the converted EPG information to the display device 170 (S770). In more detail, the EPG conversion step S770 combines the EPG information received from the EPG generation step S750 with the decoded video and audio data, converts the EPG information into a displayable form on the display device, and transmits the converted EPG information to the
