최근 아이폰(iPhone)과 같은 스마트폰의 수요가 급증하면서 인기를 끌고 있다. 그 외에도 아이패드(iPad)를 비롯한 각종 태블릿 컴퓨터나 넷북, 전자책 등도 다양하게 사용되고 있고 최근에는 초등학교나 중학교에서 태블릿 PC를 디지털 교과서로서 사용하는 경우도 늘어나고 있다. 그러나 전자기기의 사용자가 늘어나면서 과도한 사용으로 인해 목, 손목 등 특정 신체부위의 질환을 호소하는 이용자들도 늘고 있다. 즉 전자 기기를 장시간 사용하다 보면 머리가 구부정하게 앞으로 나와 있는 자세를 오랫동안 취하게 되어 목이나 어깨 부근에 통증이 생길 수 있는데, 특히 지하철이나 버스로 이동 중 스마트폰이나 노트북을 사용할 경우 무릎 위에 노트북이나 스마트폰을 놓고 사용하면 시선이 70~80도까지 내려와 목 관절에 무리가 가기 때문에 목 관절의 통증이 발생하기 쉽다는 문제가 있다.

우리 일상생활에서 항상 쓰이고 있는 전자 기기가 많다. 특히 스마트폰 외에 패드나 노트 형태의 좀더 큰 스마트 기기는 손에 들고 사용하기에는 다소 부담스럽다. 또한 몸이 아파 누워 있을 때, 한 손으로 밖에 기기를 사용해야 될 때 그 불편함이 더 크다. 따라서 한 손으로 침대에 편히 누워서도 동영상을 보고나 전자책을 편하게 볼 수 있도록 돕는 장치를 생각하게 되었다. 평소 전자 기기는 두 손을 모두 사용하여 아래를 내려다보며 사용하는 경우가 대부분이다. 이때 잘못된 자세로 목과 신체에 무리가 간다. 이로 인해 여러 신체적 질병이 일어나기도 하여 이를 해결하고자 본 고안을 하게 되었다.
