Description

Digital cable broadcasting set top box for mobile terminal, system and transmission method thereof {DIGITAL CABLE BROADCAST SETTOP BOX FOR MOBILE TERMINAL, THE SYSTEM AND TRANSPORT METHOD THEREOF}

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a digital cable broadcasting set-top box for mobile terminals, a system, and a method for transmitting the same. In particular, a multicast stream of digital cable broadcasting transmitted from a head-end system is converted from a set-top box into a unicast stream and wirelessly connected to the set-top box. The present invention relates to a digital cable broadcasting set-top box for a mobile terminal, a system for transmitting the same to a mobile terminal to be connected, and a transmission method thereof.

Digital broadcasting includes digital terrestrial broadcasting, digital satellite broadcasting and digital cable broadcasting, depending on the transmission medium.

Digital broadcasting data used in digital cable broadcasting among these digital broadcastings can efficiently and efficiently compress the amount of information of programs for each channel based on the MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) coding standard and the like. It supports unidirectional downstream by multiplexing programs corresponding to channel efficiently.

In addition, MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) -2 has been adopted as a standard for video and audio compression technology worldwide in order to efficiently and multiplex and transmit programs corresponding to broadcast channels.

In addition, the modulation method is a QAM method, which is one of digital methods, and is suitable for transmitting high efficiency data in a limited transmission band by changing amplitude and phase according to a digital data signal to be transmitted.

Thus, open cable digital broadcasting can broadcast dozens or hundreds of channels without the use of as many repeaters as in analog broadcasting. In other words, 6MHz to 30MHz per broadcasting channel is used in the frequency band up to 750MHz, and it is serviced by unidirectional downstream.

1 is a block diagram of a general digital cable broadcasting system, in which the digital cable broadcasting transmitted from the headend system 10 is converted into a packet for data through a cable modem termination system (CMTS) 20 (30: DOCSIS, Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications) is transmitted to the set-top box 40 through a tunnel.

The Docsys 30 is a standard interface of a cable modem, which is a device that allows data to be exchanged between the cable broadcasting headend system 10 and the subscriber set-top box 40. The subscriber-side device (eg, set-top box) It conforms to a standard called Open Cable, and the transmission standard for supporting digital TV on open cable is the DOCSIS Settop-box Gateway (DSG).

On the other hand, if you want to use streaming service to use digital cable broadcasting in smart terminal such as iPad or Galaxy Tab, build HTTP streaming server or RTP (REAL TIME TRANSPORT PROTOCOL) streaming server in headend system and transmit broadcast channel through it. Should be.

In addition, most of network communication of smart terminals uses 3G data network or Wi-Fi network. However, since there are not many popular Wi-Fi networks that support multicast traffic, all RTP streaming services are also based on unicast. Consists of

Therefore, in order to use a digital cable broadcasting channel in a smart terminal, data must be transmitted in a unicast manner through an HTTP streaming server or an RTP streaming server built in a headend system.

However, the unicast method has a disadvantage in that the traffic load increases linearly as the number of users of the corresponding service increases.

For example, if one user uses a streaming service of 1 Mbps, when 100 users use the service, 100 Mbps of traffic occurs.

In addition, as the number of unicast users increases, it is necessary to increase the number of servers for managing sessions in the headend system.

For example, if you can manage 1000 sessions per streaming server, you have to run 10 streaming servers for 10,000 subscribers, so the cost of managing and maintaining traffic is significant.

In addition, the set-top box 100 may recognize the channel information of the digital cable broadcasting for the mobile terminal through this.

The set top box 100 receives a multicast stream of a digital cable broadcast from a real-time streaming server of the headend system through a dachsis tunnel.

Conventionally, in order to provide digital cable broadcasting for a mobile terminal in a headend system, it has been difficult to manage a traffic and session increase by providing a streaming service in unicast.

Accordingly, in order to prevent the limitation of services due to the increase of traffic and sessions, the overload of the streaming server is prevented in the same manner as the number of users, thereby providing the digital cable broadcasting service for the mobile terminal.

However, this prevents additional users from using the service and provides digital cable broadcasting services for mobile terminals only to limited users, which is not a preferable solution for providing digital cable broadcasting for mobile terminals.

On the other hand, according to the embodiment of the present invention, the headend system is solved even if the number of users increases by eliminating the traffic overload and the restriction on the number of sessions through the method of transmitting the real-time stream for the mobile terminal by multicast to the home of the digital cable broadcasting subscriber. RTP streaming server burden is not big.

That is, due to the characteristics of the multicast scheme, since a set-top box of a plurality of digital cable broadcasting subscribers is shared and used, the traffic does not increase even if the number of users increases.

In addition, when a new user's set-top box is added, the user is accommodated by a multicast join and leave protocol between the network switches, which has the advantage that there is no session load on the headend system.

As such, the digital cable broadcasting set-top box 100 for the mobile terminal converts the digital cable broadcasting multicast stream transmitted from the headend system into the unicast stream in the set-top box 100 and transmits the digital cable to the mobile terminal 200 to transmit the digital cable. Digital cable broadcasting service for mobile terminal can be smoothly provided while preventing overload and session load of streaming traffic of broadcasting service, so it is easy to configure real-time streaming service for watching digital cable broadcasting of mobile terminal without additional server of headend system. There is an advantage.

Meanwhile, the mobile terminal 200 includes a streaming player 210 that accesses the set top box 100 through the wireless access device 70 and receives and plays the unicast stream.

The streaming player 210 is a Wi-Fi communication unit 214 for short-range wireless communication with a wireless access device 70, a set-top box connection unit 211 for recognizing and connecting to the set-top box 100 through the wireless access device 70, And a channel selector 212 for selecting a desired channel among the one or more channels provided by the set-top box 211 and a streaming receiver 213 for receiving a unicast stream of the channel selected by the user.

Since the streaming player 210 of the mobile terminal 200 using the streaming service needs to perform unicast-accessible Wi-Fi communication, a wireless access device 70 connected to the digital cable set-top box for the mobile terminal (WiFi AP) is provided. The set-top box 100 is connected and set to transmit the unicast stream between the set-top box 100 and the mobile terminal 200.

In addition, the streaming player 210 installed in the mobile terminal 200, such as a smart phone, smart pad is the IP that the digital cable set-top box 100 for the mobile terminal is transmitted corresponding to the channel selected by the user through a cable network Set to send the data converted from IP multicast stream to IP unicast stream.

As described above for this configuration, the digital cable set-top box 100 for the mobile terminal is provided with an MTU conversion unit 130 for converting multicast traffic into unicast traffic, the unicast traffic of the mobile terminal 200 Support the reception of.

As such, the digital cable broadcasting system for the mobile terminal includes a streaming player 210 installed in the RTP streaming server 60 of the headend system 50, the digital cable set-top box 100 for the mobile terminal and the mobile terminal 200. By including and converting the multicast stream into a unicast stream to transmit wirelessly, it is possible to smoothly provide a streaming service to a large number of subscribers without increasing traffic in the headend system.

In addition, even if the number of subscribers increases, the unicast sessions are all handled in the digital cable set-top box 100, so that the additional cost of management and maintenance is reduced because no additional server for session management is needed in the head-end system 50. .

In addition, the digital cable broadcasting system for a mobile terminal according to an embodiment of the present invention is a streaming player installed in a mobile terminal 200 such as a tablet PC, a smartphone via the wireless communication device 70 connected to the set-top box 100 Communication with the 210 allows the set-top box 100 to provide authentication, management, and channel information of the mobile terminal using short-range wireless communication, thereby reducing spatial viewing constraints of the viewer and providing access management and service of the mobile terminal 200. This is easy.

4 is a data flow diagram of a digital cable broadcast transmission method for a mobile terminal according to one embodiment of the present invention.
