Description

METHOD AND APPARAUTS FOR PROVIDING USER INTERFACE IN OPERATION SYSTEM SUPPORTING MULTITASKING}

The present invention relates to an operating system that supports multitasking, and more particularly, to a method and apparatus for providing a user interface for a program executing through a background process of multitasking.

Due to the development of the electronic communication industry, portable terminals such as mobile communication terminals (cellular phones), electronic notebooks, and personal composite terminals are becoming essentials of the modern society, and are becoming an important means of rapidly changing information transmission.

As the portable terminal grows on a computer basis, it is possible to perform an operation simultaneously by applying an operating system that supports multitasking. For example, the user may browse the web while listening to music through the portable terminal.

In addition, as the utilization of the portable terminal applying the touch screen increases, the interest in the graphical user interface (GUI) also increases.

1 is a conceptual diagram of a method of providing a user interface in an operating system supporting a conventional multitasking.

Referring to FIG. 1, the multitasking executes a foreground process 120 and a background process 110 simultaneously. The foreground process 120 refers to the processing means of the foreground program shown and executed on the screen, and the background process 110 refers to the processing means of the background program executed without appearing on the screen. The foreground process 120 constructs and outputs a graphical user interface 121 associated with the foreground program. However, the background process 120 does not construct a graphical user interface to associate with the background program. However, the foreground process 120 may receive the information about the background program from the background process 120 and provide a graphic user interface linked with the background program through the graphic user interface 121.

However, the graphical user interface of the background process 110 is limited to the graphical user interface 121 of the foreground process 120.

An object of the present invention is to provide a method and apparatus for providing a user interface in an operating system that supports a multi-tasking to configure the graphical user interface associated with the background program through a background process, and output the same through the foreground process.

As a first aspect for solving the above problems, the present invention provides a method for providing a user interface in an operating system that supports multitasking, wherein the first program is executed through a foreground process and the second program is executed through a background process. Configuring and outputting a first graphical user interface associated with the first program through the foreground process, and configuring a second graphical user interface associated with the second program through the background process. And providing to the foreground process and outputting the second graphical user interface through the foreground process.

As a second aspect for solving the above problems, the present invention provides a user interface in an operating system that supports multitasking, comprising: executing a first program through a display unit and a foreground process for outputting an image and performing a background process; A second graphic that executes a second program, constructs a first graphical user interface associated with the first program through the foreground process, outputs to the display, and associates with the second program through the background process And a controller configured to provide a user interface to the foreground process and output the second graphical user interface to the display unit through the foreground process. Provide value.

The present invention can configure a graphical user interface for a background program executed through a multitasking background process without the limitation of the foreground process.

Hereinafter, the operation principle of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the following description, well-known functions or constructions are not described in detail since they would obscure the invention in unnecessary detail. The following terms are defined in consideration of the functions of the present invention, and these may be changed according to the intention of the user, the operator, or the like. Therefore, the definition should be based on the contents throughout this specification.

The present invention relates to an operating system that supports multitasking, and more particularly, to a method and apparatus for providing a user interface for a program executing through a background process of multitasking. An embodiment of the present invention configures a graphical user interface associated with a background program through a background process and outputs it through the foreground process.

The multitasking simultaneously executes the foreground process and the background process. The foreground process refers to the processing means of the foreground program shown and executed on the screen, and the background process refers to the processing means of the background program executed without appearing on the screen.

2 is a block diagram of a portable terminal according to an embodiment of the present invention.

Referring to FIG. 2, the portable terminal includes an input unit 21, a display unit 22, a storage unit 23, and a control unit 24.

The input unit 21 outputs an input signal to the control unit 24.

The display unit 22 outputs an output signal received under the control of the controller 24 as an image.

The portable terminal may configure the touch screen unit to replace the input unit 21 and the display unit 22.

The storage unit 23 stores a program for controlling the overall operation of the portable terminal and various data input and output when the control operation of the portable terminal is performed.

The controller 24 controls the overall operation of the portable terminal and builds an operating system that supports multitasking. Hereinafter, a method in which the controller 24 provides a user interface in multitasking will be described with reference to the drawings.

3 is a flowchart of a procedure for providing a user interface in a multitasking environment according to an embodiment of the present invention.

Referring to FIG. 3, in step 301, the controller 24 executes a first program through a foreground process, and executes a second program through a background process.

Next, in step 303, the controller 24 configures a first graphical user interface associated with the first program through the foreground process and outputs it to the screen. The graphical user interface includes a dialog box, an icon, a menu bar, a scroll bar, a text box, a title bar based on a window. Configure various layout elements such as bar and toolbar.

Next, in step 305, the controller 24 configures a second graphical user interface associated with the second program through the background process and transmits the second graphical user interface to the foreground process.

In operation 307, the controller 24 outputs the second graphical user interface to the screen through the foreground process. For example, the controller 24 may take a screen output method of overlaying the image of the second graphical user interface onto the image of the first graphical user interface through the foreground process.

The background process constructs a new second graphical user interface that reflects the update information of the second program and sends it to the foreground process. In addition, when an event by a user input occurs through the second graphical user interface, the background process performs an operation of the second program according to the event.

Each process of multitasking has tasks or resources that are independent of each other. Under certain rules, processes can exchange information. However, when communication between the foreground process and the background process is not allowed, the controller 24 outputs only the first graphical user interface through the foreground process.

4 is a conceptual diagram of a method of providing a user interface in an operating system supporting multitasking according to an embodiment of the present invention.

Referring to FIG. 4, the controller 24 calls a home screen program and drives the home screen program through the foreground process 420. The controller 24 configures and outputs a home screen associated with the home screen program through the foreground process 420 in a graphical user interface.

The controller 24 calls the music player program and drives the called music player program through a music player background process 411. In addition, the controller 24 configures and transmits the graphical user interface 412 associated with the music playback program through the music playback background process 411 to the foreground process 420.

The controller 24 calls the file download program and drives the called file download program through the file download background process 413. In addition, the controller 24 configures and transmits the graphical user interface 414 associated with the file download program through the file download background process 413 to the foreground process 420.

The controller 24 outputs the graphical user interfaces 412 and 414 through the foreground process.

While the present invention has been described in connection with what is presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments. Therefore, the scope of the present invention should not be limited to the described embodiments, but should be determined not only by the scope of the following claims, but also by the equivalents of the claims.
