Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic light emitting diode, and more particularly, to an organic light emitting diode capable of reducing power consumption and minimizing a color shift problem according to a viewing angle.
최근까지, CRT(cathode ray tube)가 표시장비로서 주로 사용되었다. Until recently, cathode ray tubes (CRTs) have been mainly used as display equipment. Recently, however, flat panel displays such as plasma display panels (PDPs), liquid crystal display devices (LCDs), and organic electroluminescent devices (OELDs), which can replace CRTs, Is a widely studied and used trend.
Among the flat panel display devices as described above, the organic light emitting device is a self-light emitting device, and since the backlight used in the liquid crystal display device which is a non-light emitting device is not necessary, a light weight and a thin film are possible.
In addition, it is advantageous in terms of power consumption compared to the liquid crystal display equipment, it is possible to drive the DC low voltage, fast response speed, and because the internal components are solid, it is strong against external shock, and has a wide range of use temperature range.
In particular, since the manufacturing process is simple, there is an advantage that can reduce the production cost more than the existing liquid crystal display equipment.
1 is a diagram illustrating a basic pixel structure of a general active matrix organic light emitting display device.
As illustrated, one pixel of the active matrix organic light emitting diode is a switching thin film transistor STr, a driving thin film transistor DTr, a storage capacitor StgC, and an organic light emitting diode E. Is made of.
That is, the gate line GL is formed in the first direction, the data line DL is formed in the second direction crossing the first direction, and the voltage is spaced apart from the data line DL. The power supply wiring PL is formed.
A switching thin film transistor STr is formed at the intersection of the data line DL and the gate line GL and a driving thin film transistor DTr electrically connected to the switching thin film transistor STr is formed have.
At this time, the driving thin film transistor DTr is electrically connected to the organic light emitting diode E. That is, the first electrode, which is one terminal of the organic electroluminescent diode E, is connected to the drain electrode of the driving thin film transistor DTr, and the second electrode, which is the other terminal, is connected to the power supply line PL. In this case, the power line PL transfers a power supply voltage to the organic light emitting diode E. A storage capacitor StgC is formed between the gate electrode and the source electrode of the driving thin film transistor DTr.
Therefore, when a signal is applied through the gate line GL, the switching thin film transistor STr is turned on and the signal of the data line DL is transmitted to the gate electrode of the driving thin film transistor DTr, The thin film transistor DTr is turned on so that light is output through the organic light emitting diode E. At this time, when the driving thin film transistor DTr is turned on, a level of a current flowing from the power supply line PL to the organic light emitting diode E is determined. Accordingly, the organic light emitting diode E The storage capacitor StgC is capable of maintaining a constant gate voltage of the driving thin film transistor DTr when the switching thin film transistor STr is turned off The level of the current flowing through the organic light emitting diode E can be kept constant until the next frame even if the switching thin film transistor STr is turned off.
As shown in FIG. 2, the organic light emitting diode E may include an
In the organic light emitting diode (E) having such a configuration, when voltage is applied to the

The organic light emitting diode is a
Although not shown, in the organic light emitting display device, a gate wiring and a data wiring defining each pixel region Rp, Gp, and Bp crossing each other on a substrate and a power wiring extending in parallel with any one of them are located. Each pixel region Rp, Gp, and Bp includes a switching thin film transistor connected to a gate line and a data line and a driving thin film transistor connected to the switching thin film transistor. The driving thin film transistor is connected to the
The
The first
In addition, the
As such, repetitive reflection occurs between the
(d1>d2>d3)In this case, since the wavelengths of the light emitted from the red, green, and blue organic

On the other hand, the
The organic light emitting diode having the above-described configuration has an effect of increasing light output efficiency and obtaining vivid color characteristics by using the microcavity effect.
However, the organic light emitting diode as described above has a problem in that visibility is lowered due to reflection of external light, and there is still a problem of forming a polarizing plate on the

Accordingly, the first
The
In this case, the
Meanwhile, the
The
For example, it may be composed of transition metals, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, rare earth metals and alloys thereof. For example, it may be made of any one of silver (Ag), magnesium-silver alloy (Mg: Ag), and samarium (Sm). When the
As described above, the
That is, referring to FIG. 5, the
According to the shape of the
The light absorption by the
That is, the
Meanwhile, the thickness of the
If the thickness of the
As described above, the organic light emitting diode according to the second exemplary embodiment of the present invention deposits a metal material on the
In the conventional organic light emitting diode, a polarizing plate is used to improve visibility, thereby increasing power consumption. However, in the present invention, since the visibility is improved by the
In addition, in the conventional organic light emitting diode, a color shift problem occurs according to a viewing angle. In the present invention, the color shift problem according to a viewing angle may also be solved by the
Hereinafter, the characteristic improvement by the light control layer will be compared and explained through Comparative Examples and Experimental Examples.
비교예Comparative example
The first hole transport layer 1160A was stacked on the reflective anode connected to the thin film transistor.
In order to achieve a microcavity effect by adjusting the optical distance according to each color, a second hole transport layer 680A corresponding to the red pixel region and a third hole transport layer 350A corresponding to the green pixel region are formed on the hole transport layer. Thereafter, an electron transport layer 360A was deposited for electron inflow.
Mg: Ag (110A: 10%) was deposited as a transflective cathode on the electron transport layer, and a capping layer 630A and a polarizing plate for improving visibility were attached to the light extraction efficiency on the cathode.

The anode, the first to the third hole transport layer, the red, green and blue organic light emitting pattern, the electron transport layer and the cathode are laminated under the same conditions as in the first comparative example, the first capping layer (100A), the first on the cathode A light control layer made of Mg: Ag (x A: 10%) on one capping layer, and a second capping layer 530A were continuously deposited on the light control layer. The thickness of the light control layer was 60 (Experimental Example 1), 80 (Experimental Example 2), 100 (Experimental Example 3), 120 (Experimental Example 4) A.
제 5-7 Article 5-7 실험예Experimental Example
The anode, the first to the third hole transport layer, the red, green and blue organic light emitting pattern, the electron transport layer and the cathode are laminated under the same conditions as in the first comparative example, the first capping layer (100A), the first on the cathode A light control layer made of Mg: Ag (x A: 10%) on one capping layer, and a second capping layer 530A were continuously deposited on the light control layer. The thickness of the light control layer was set to 80 (Experimental Example 5), 100 (Experimental Example 6), and 120 (Experimental Example 7).
The experimental results of Comparative Examples and Experimental Examples 1 to 7 are summarized in Table 1 below.
Color coordinates

[mW]Power Consumption
[mW]
As can be seen from Table 1, in Experimental Example 1-7 using the light control layer, power consumption was reduced compared to the comparative example while maintaining visibility. This is because visibility can be maintained without a polarizing plate by the light absorption characteristic of the light control layer, and the increase in power consumption by the polarizing plate is prevented.
6 is a graph showing the color shift phenomenon of Comparative Example and Experimental Example 1-4. Referring to FIG. 6, it can be seen that, in comparison with Comparative Example (Graph A) not including the light control layer, in Examples 1 to 3 (Graph BD) including the light control layer, color shift according to the viewing angle was suppressed. .
This is because the viewing angle dependence is weakened by the scattering characteristic by the light control layer.
As described above, the organic light emitting diode of the present invention includes a metal cluster-shaped light control layer to improve light scattering and light absorption characteristics. By improving the light absorption characteristic, the polarizing plate for improving the visibility is not required, and thus power consumption can be reduced.
In addition, the light scattering characteristics may solve the color shift problem according to the viewing angle.
The present invention is not limited to the above embodiments, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention.
