TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention generally relates to wireless communications, and in particular, to methods and apparatus related to handovers in wireless communications.
16: Air Interface for Fixed and Mobile Broadband Wireless Access Systems, Amendment 2: Physical and Medium Access Control Layers for Combined Fixed and Mobile Operation in Licensed Bands and Corrigendum 1 dated February 28, 2006("IEEE 802.16e 표준")은 광대역 무선 액세스 시스템에 대한 다양한 표준들을 규정하였으며, 그 전체가 본 명세서에서 참고로 반영된다. IEEE Standard for Local Area and Urban Area Networks, Part 16: Air Interface for Fixed and Mobile Broadband Wireless Access Systems, Amendment 2: Physical and Medium Access Control Layers for Combined Fixed and Mobile Operation in Licensed Bands and Corrigendum 1 dated February 28, 2006 ("IEEE 802.16e standard") defined various standards for broadband wireless access systems, the entirety of which is incorporated herein by reference. For example, the IEEE 802.16e standard has defined various protocols for handing over a mobile station from an anchor base station to a target base station. Considerations when a mobile station will perform a handover procedure from an anchor base station to a target base station are outside the scope of the IEEE 802.16e standard, but in general, the mobile station communicates with the anchor base station for a period of time, and then from the anchor base station to the target base station. The mobile station will then initiate, for example, the mobile station instead of communicating with the target base station when the mobile station has moved to a location where communication with the target base station is more effective than communication with the anchor base station.
The IEEE 802.16e standard has several disadvantages. For example, before a mobile station can complete a handover to a target base station, the mobile station needs certain system configuration information (SCI) for the target base station, and transmits the system configuration information of such target base station to the mobile station. The protocols defined by the IEEE 802.16e standard for this can be cumbersome and can cause undesirable delays during handover. In addition, the mobile station typically transmits various medium access control (MAC) messages (also referred to simply as "control messages") to initiate the handover procedure, but the IEEE 802.16e standard is expected target base stations for handover. It does not include a satisfactory protocol to facilitate the receipt of such MAC messages at various base stations. In addition, before the mobile station can complete the handover to the target base station, the mobile station can preferably obtain data indicative of the distance between the mobile station and the target base station, so that the mobile station is allocated time for uplink signals from the base station. To transmit the uplink signals at times calculated to cause the uplink signals to be received at the target base station, thus preventing interference with uplink signals from other mobile stations. However, the protocols defined by the IEEE 802.16e standard for acquiring such data can be cumbersome and cause unnecessary delays during handover. Moreover, the IEEE 802.16e standard does not define an acknowledgment by the anchor base station of an indication by the mobile station that the mobile station will perform a handover from the anchor base station to the target base station. Thus, if the anchor base station does not receive an indication or incorrectly receives an indication, the anchor base station may continue to attempt to communicate with the base station after the base station completes the handover to the target base station, which is unnecessary interference and congestion. May cause. Also, if the anchor base station does not receive an indication, the anchor base station may not have informed the target base station that the mobile station will perform a handover to the target base station, in which case the target base station may not be ready to communicate with the mobile station. And a communication interruption may occur.

OFDMOFDM 변조 Modulation
In OFDM modulation, the transmission band is divided into a number of orthogonal carrier waves. Each carrier wave is modulated according to the digital data to be transmitted. Since OFDM divides the transmission band into multiple carriers, the bandwidth per carrier decreases and the modulation time per carrier increases. Since multiple carriers are transmitted in parallel, the transmission rate of digital data or symbols on any given carrier is lower than when a single carrier is used.
OFDM modulation involves the use of fast Fourier inverse transform (IFFT) on the information to be transmitted. For demodulation, fast Fourier transform (FFT) is performed on the received signal to recover the transmitted information. In practice, IFFT and FFT are provided by digital signal processing, which includes discrete Fourier inverse transform (IDFT) and discrete Fourier transform (DFT), respectively. Thus, a feature of OFDM modulation is that orthogonal carrier waves are generated for multiple bands in a transmission channel. Modulated signals are digital signals that can stay within their respective bands with a relatively low transmission rate. Individual carrier waves are not directly modulated by digital signals. Instead, all carrier waves are modulated at once by the IFFT process.

Referring to FIG. 5, a logical OFDM transmission architecture is described. Transfer of data to mobile stations
1 and 5, the scheduled
At this point, the groups of bits have been mapped to symbols representing locations in the amplitude and phase constellation. In this example, it is assumed that the

Referring now to FIG. 6, transmission by
First, a digitized signal is provided to the synchronization logic generally shown at 76, which includes a
At this point, the OFDM symbols in the time domain are ready to be converted into the frequency domain by the
Continuing with FIG. 6, processing logic compares the received pilot symbols with the pilot symbols expected at certain subcarriers at predetermined times to determine a channel response for the subcarriers that transmitted the pilot symbols. The results are interpolated to estimate the channel response for most, if not all, of the remaining subcarriers that did not provide pilot symbols. The actual and interpolated channel responses are used to estimate the overall channel response, including the channel responses for most but not all of the subcarriers in the OFDM channel.
Frequency domain symbols and channel reconstruction information derived from the channel responses for each receive path are provided to the
The recovered symbols are placed in reverse order using symbol deinterleaver logic 102 corresponding to the
