Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a disk drive, and more particularly, to a data recording method for recording data on a recording medium.
Generally, disk drives include optical disk drives and hard disk drives. Optical disk drives include compact disks (CDs), digital video disks (DVDs), and blu-ray disks. Refers to a device for recording information by reproducing light onto a recording medium or reproducing information recorded on the recording medium.
In a recording medium in which a user can record data in a PC environment, such as a DVD-RAM or Blu-ray disc, for example, priority is given to the user area on the recording medium when performing data recording operations. The data is recorded. On the other hand, if a defect occurs in which a data cannot be recorded in a specific storage space (hereinafter referred to as a 'block') in the user area, the data is stored in another specific block in the spare area. Is recorded. This is called defect replacement.
When a data write command is input to the disc drive, the optical pickup moves in the radial direction of the disc-shaped recording medium, looking for a specific block in which the data is to be written (called 'target seek'), and The laser is irradiated to a specific block to write data. In addition, for defect management, data of a specific block in which the data is recorded is read (called 'verify'), and a read error rate of the specific block is measured. If the read error rate is greater than or equal to the reference error rate, the block is determined to be a defect block, and data written in the defect block is recorded in another specific block in the spare area. That is, the defect replacement described above occurs.
However, there may occur a case where the target seek becomes impossible due to the state of the recording medium or external conditions. When the target seek is impossible, the recording operation cannot be completed successfully because the recording command error is processed by the operating system (PC) of the PC, and the recording medium must be discarded.
The present invention provides a data recording method of a disk drive that can successfully complete a data recording operation even if a target seek failure occurs during the data recording operation.
The present invention is a seek step of finding a target block in a recording medium; A defect block determining step of determining the target block as a defect block if the seek for the target block fails; And a defect block replacing step of recording data in a replacement block of a recording medium replacing the defect block.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the target block may be provided in a user area of a recording medium, and the replacement block may be provided in a spare area of the recording medium.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, if data to be recorded remains after the defect block replacement step, the seek step, the defect block determination step, and the defect block replacement step may be repeated with respect to another target block.
In another aspect, the present invention, the seek step of finding a target block in the recording medium; A target block recording step of recording data in the target block if the seek for the target block is successful; A verification step of reading data written in the target block; A defect block determining step of determining the target block as a defect block if the read error rate in the verifying step is equal to or greater than a predetermined reference error rate; And a defect block replacing step of recording data in a replacement block of a recording medium replacing the defect block.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, the target block may be provided in a user area of a recording medium, and the replacement block may be provided in a spare area of the recording medium.
According to an embodiment of the present invention, if data to be recorded after the defect block replacement step remains, the seek step, the target block writing step, the verifying step, the defect block determining step, and the defect are performed with respect to another target block. You can repeat the block replacement step.
According to the embodiment of the present invention, even if the target seek failure occurs during the data recording operation, the recording operation can be successfully completed since it is not treated as a write command error. Therefore, waste and resource waste due to the disposal of the recording medium can also be prevented.
Hereinafter, a data recording method of a disk drive according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
1 is a plan view schematically showing an optical disk drive and a recording medium mounted therein, and FIG. 2 is a flowchart illustrating a data recording method of a disk drive according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to FIG. 1, a

The defect management area DMA is an area in which defect information is recorded that replaces a specific block in the user area in which the defect has occurred with another specific block in the spare area. The first defect management area is a defect management area provided in the inner circumferential part IP of the
1 and 2, in the data recording method of the
If the read error rate is smaller than the reference error rate at S14 (S15), data recording for the target block is successful, and it is determined whether there is still more data to be recorded on the recording medium 20 (S16). If there is more data to be recorded, the next target block is seeked (S17). The steps S12 to S17 are repeated until there is no more data to record, and the data recording operation is completed successfully when there is no more data to record.
On the other hand, if the seek of the target block fails in S12, the target block is determined to be a defect block (S21), and data to be recorded in the target block is recorded in the replacement block (S22). This is called defect block replacement. The target block is provided in a user area of the
On the other hand, if the read error rate is greater than or equal to the reference error rate in S15, the target block is determined to be a defect block (S21), the defect block is replaced with a replacement block (S22), and the defect information is stored in the memory 16 (S23). ). Steps S21 to S23 have already been described above, and thus redundant description thereof will be omitted. As the steps S21 to S23 are performed, the data to be recorded in the specific target block is successfully recorded in the replacement block, and the step S16 is performed again to determine whether the data recording operation is completed. According to the data recording method of the disk drive described above, even if the target block seek process fails, the data writing operation can be successfully completed without being processed as a write command error.
Although the present invention has been described with reference to the embodiments shown in the drawings, this is merely exemplary, and it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various modifications and equivalent other embodiments are possible. Therefore, the true scope of protection of the present invention should be defined only by the appended claims.
