A device for detecting a type of passenger is provided to classify the type of passenger y measuring the tension change of a leaf spring depending on load of passenger. A device for detecting a type of passenger comprises: an elastic member which is installed in a seat frame(50) and absorbing the shock; a load cell(60) which is combined in the elastic member, and reading the tension of the elastic member changing according to the load of passenger; and a controller(70) classifying the type of passenger according to a value sensed with the load cell.
