Description

The present invention relates to a computer system, and more particularly to a computer system that supports the S3 power saving mode.

As a method of reducing power consumption of a computer system while increasing power consumption due to the use of a computer, if there is no data input from an input device for a predetermined time, the display operation of the display device is stopped, and the hard disk for a predetermined time. The power management function has been applied to the computer to minimize the power consumption of the computer system by stopping the drive of the hard disk when the drive of the drive does not occur.

최근에는 컴퓨터시스템의 상태를 다섯 가지(S0~S4)모드로 구분하여 시스템의 전원을 관리하는 ACPI(Advanced Configuration and Power Interface Specification)라는 전원관리기능이 제안되어 사용되고 있다.Recently, a power management function called ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface Specification), which manages the power of the system by classifying the state of the computer system into five (S0 to S4) modes, has been proposed and used.

Here, ACPI's S3 mode is for fast reuse of computer systems, in which power is supplied to other computer hardware devices other than the power management controller and system memory (RAM), which consists of volatile memory. Is stopped. The process of entering the system into S3 mode is called 'suspend to RAM', and the current state is stored in the system memory.

When the system is set to S3 mode, the ACPI function saves the current working state in system memory (RAM) and turns off all power. In the wake-up operation in which the computer system switches from the S3 mode to the normal mode, the general booting process is not performed, and the system system is quickly reused by calling contents stored in the system memory. Therefore, the user prefers a computer system that supports ACPI's S3 mode, which has a large power saving effect and enables fast system reuse.

However, the conventional computer system cuts off the video data and the power supplied to the display device in the S3 mode, so that the display screen is black and cannot be distinguished from the off state of the computer system. Accordingly, the user may confuse the S3 mode state that the system is off, and may cause a problem that the work data is lost when the computer is rebooted.

Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a computer system that can easily recognize the power saving state of the system by the status display unit provided in the display device.

본 발명에 따라 비디오커넥터(30)에는 R/G/B신호입력핀과 동기신호입력핀이외에도 S3절전상태신호를 인가하기 위한 입력핀이 설정된다(도 4참조).According to the present invention, the video connector 30 is provided with an input pin for applying an S3 sleep state signal in addition to the R / G / B signal input pin and the synchronous signal input pin (see Fig. 4).

2 is an internal control block diagram of the computer system of FIG. As shown in the figure, the main processor (not shown) provided inside the computer main body 10 controls the central processing unit 11 that performs various control and calculation functions, and the central processing unit 11 and other peripheral devices. And a chipset that functions as a power management controller that controls the power supply unit 19 so that the power supply to the peripheral device is cut off when the power saving mode is switched to, and a control signal and a power supply unit to the power management controller (SMPS: System Management Power). And a NAND gate 18 for inverting and inverting the power saving state signal of the supply 19.

The chipset controls the north bridge 13, which controls the central processing unit 11 and the video card 17, and the power supply unit 19 according to a power command provided from the central processing unit 11 to manage various inputs and outputs. It is composed of a south bridge (15) that serves as a power management function for controlling.

On the other hand, the display device 20 detects the S3 sleep state signal input through the S3 mode state display unit 25 and the predetermined pin of the video connector 30, and based on the high / low state of the S3 sleep state, the S3 mode. It includes a microcomputer 23 for controlling to turn on / off of the status display unit 25. The microcomputer 23 turns on the S3 mode state display unit 25 when the S3 power saving state signal is high, and turns off the S3 mode state display unit 25 when the S3 power saving state signal is low.

Here, in the normal mode in which the normal power is supplied, the south bridge 15 outputs the S3 power saving control signal to the high level, and when the S3 power saving mode is switched, the south bridge 15 outputs the S3 power saving control signal to the low level.

When the power switch 1 is turned on, the power supply unit 19 receives a PS-ON signal output from a state sensing circuit (not shown) of the power switch 1 provided on the main board and supplies the PS-ON signal to each device attached to the main board. After the power is supplied, the normal power state signal (Power_Good) is output to the high level as an indication that the normal power is supplied, and the low level is output when the power is switched to the power saving mode.

When there is no input signal from the keyboard 5 and the mouse 7, the CPU 11 switches to the S3 power saving mode and outputs the S3 power saving command, and the S3 power saving command is connected to the south bridge through the north bridge 13. Is passed to (15). According to the S3 power saving command, the south bridge 13 switches the power saving control signal Sleep_S3 to the low level to the power supply 19 and outputs it to the power supply 19. On the other hand, the power supply unit 19 converts the normal power state signal Power_Good signal to a low level and outputs the signal to the south bridge 15.

According to the present invention, the two output signals of the south bridge 15 and the power supply unit 19 are input to the input terminal of the NAND gate 19, and the S3 mode state signal, which is the output value of the NAND gate 19, is the video connector 30. It is provided to the display device 20 through the S3 state signal input pin set to.

Therefore, when the system is in the normal mode, the output of the NAND gate 19 becomes low level, and when the system is in the S3 sleep mode, the output of the NAND gate 19 becomes high level.

The output signals of the south bridge 15 and the power supply unit 19 and the NAND gate 19 according to the normal mode and the S3 power saving mode are summarized as follows.

3 is a relationship diagram of a power mode and an S3 mode state display unit of the computer main body of FIG. As shown in the figure, when the S3 mode status display unit 25 is turned off while the video card 17 and the display device 20 of the computer main body 10 are connected, the power state of the system is in the normal mode. When the S3 mode state display unit 25 is turned on, the power supply state of the system is in the S3 power saving mode.

In the above-described embodiment, the power saving state display unit is described as an LED, but a beeper may be used or various display devices may be applied.

With this configuration, the user can easily grasp the S3 sleep mode state by inputting the S3 power saving signal generated by the computer system into the display device through the video connector and turning the display on and off according to the state of the input signal. have.

As described above, according to the present invention, the power saving state of the system can be easily recognized by the state display unit provided in the display device.
