Abstract

PURPOSE: A method for processing hard handoff of a mobile communication system is provided to execute a 2G mobile communication service until a call is terminated when a terminal is busy, and to perform hard handoff by confirming whether the terminal is located in an overlay region, thereby automatically receiving a 3G system service. CONSTITUTION: A terminal moves to a region where a service of a 3G mobile communication system is executed(S1). If the terminal moves to the region in an idle state(S2), the terminal periodically registers self positions in the idle state(S2,S3). A 2G mobile communication system knows that a current IMT-2000 terminal exists in a 2G/3G overlay region(S4).
