PURPOSE: A roll diameter measuring apparatus is provided to precisely measure the diameter of a roll from a remote place without cutting a middle part of a strip to remove the strip. CONSTITUTION: A roll diameter measuring apparatus includes supporting stand(4a) arranged in an axial direction of a roll(1) to be measured. A slide guide(5) is fixed to the supporting stand(4a) in such a manner that height of the slide guide(5) is adjustable. A slide bar(11) is inserted into the center portion of the slide bar. One end of the slide bar(11) is screw-coupled with a screw nut(6) so that the slide bar(11) moves forward and backward within a slide guide(5) as the screw nut(6) rotates. A light transceiver(7) is fixedly installed at one side of a slide guide(5). A reflection section(9) is attached to a side of the roll(1). A measuring wheel makes contact with a surface of the roll(1) to measure a diameter of the roll(1). A control section(10) is provided to display the diameter of the roll(1) by using an R.P.M of the measuring wheel.
