Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a terminal, and more particularly, to an apparatus for supplying power to a light emitting diode used in a terminal.
In general, as a liquid crystal display (LCD) backlight of a terminal, a method using a light emitting diode (LED) and an EL type have been mainly used. The present invention relates to a method of using the light emitting diode as a liquid crystal device backlight of a terminal.
통상적으로 단말기는 배터리를 전원소스로 하고, LDO(Low DropOut regulator, 이하 "저전압 강하 안정기"라 칭한다)를 사용해 필요한 전압을 만들어 사용한다. On the other hand, the terminal uses the battery as a power source. In general, a terminal uses a battery as a power source, and uses a low dropout regulator (LDO) to form a required voltage. At this time, a low voltage drop ballast that produces an output of 3.0 volts or 2.7 volts is mainly used. An example of using the low voltage drop ballast as a power source is a light emitting diode. In a general light emitting diode having a forward voltage of about 2.0 volts, a sufficient voltage can be obtained only by a low voltage drop stabilizer having the above voltage. This is because 3.0 volts or 2.7 volts, which is the output of the low voltage drop ballast, is equal to or higher than the forward voltage of the light emitting diode.
However, when a high brightness light emitting diode (for example, a blue light emitting diode) that is brighter than a general light emitting diode is used, it is easier to identify contents displayed on the liquid crystal device due to being brighter than a general light emitting diode. There is a need for a higher voltage power supply than a conventional light emitting diode. The blue-based high-brightness light emitting diode of the above example has a forward voltage of about 3.4 volts. That is, the low voltage drop stabilizer having an output of 3.0 volts or 2.7 volts cannot satisfy the forward voltage of the high brightness light emitting diode. In addition, when the battery voltage falls below the low dropout ballast output, the low dropout ballast cannot output a predetermined voltage.
In order to solve the above problem, a voltage up converter has been conventionally used. In other words, a voltage was increased using the voltage up converter and a desired voltage was obtained using a 3.5 volt low voltage drop stabilizer. However, by using the voltage up converter as described above, a problem arises in that the configuration becomes complicated and the required cost increases.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a method and method for obtaining a desired output voltage from a low voltage drop ballast without using a voltage up converter to solve the above problem.
The present invention for achieving the above object; In order to obtain a high output voltage from the low voltage drop ballast, by connecting a diode to the low voltage drop ballast, it characterized in that the low voltage drop ballast outputs a voltage higher by the forward voltage of the connected diode than the set voltage.

Hereinafter, exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the following description of the reference numerals to the components of the drawings, it should be noted that the same reference numerals as much as possible even if displayed on different drawings.
1 is a diagram showing a low voltage drop ballast used as a device for supplying power.
A brief description of the low voltage drop ballast 110 with reference to FIG. The low voltage drop diode receives the input 110 and outputs it as a signal having a constant voltage (120). The output 120 of the low voltage drop ballast 110 is equal to the voltage input as a reference level to the set voltage of the low voltage drop ballast 110 itself.
FIG. 2 is a diagram of the present invention and shows a device capable of supplying a higher voltage power than the low voltage drop ballast by connecting a diode to the low voltage drop ballast.
As shown in FIG. 2, the present invention includes a low voltage drop stabilizer 110 and a diode 200.
As described above, the low voltage drop stabilizer 110 outputs a voltage higher than the reference potential by setting the reference potential to ground GND. On the other hand, since the potential of the ground GND, which becomes the reference potential, is "0", the low voltage drop stabilizer 110 outputs a voltage equal to the set voltage. For example, if the reference level of the low voltage drop ballast 110 having a voltage of 3.0 volts is connected to ground, the output voltage obtained from the low voltage drop ballast 110 becomes 3 volts. Therefore, when the voltage applied to the reference level of the low voltage drop ballast 110 becomes high, the output voltage of the low voltage drop diode 110 may also be obtained.
Meanwhile, a method of using the diode 200 may be considered as a method of increasing the voltage applied to the reference level of the low voltage drop stabilizer 110.
In order to carry out the present invention, an anode (anode) of the diode 200 is connected to the reference level of the low voltage drop stabilizer 110, and a cathode of the diode 200 is connected to ground. Then, the voltage of the forward voltage of the connected diode 200 is applied to the reference level of the low voltage drop stabilizer 110. As a result, the output voltage of the low voltage drop ballast 110 becomes a value obtained by adding the forward voltage of the diode and the set voltage. For example, when the diode 200 having the forward voltage of 0.7 volts is connected to the low voltage drop diode 110 having the set voltage of 3 volts, the voltage output from the low voltage drop diode 110 becomes 3.7 volts.
As described above, by implementing the present invention of adding the diode 200 to the existing low voltage drop stabilizer 110, it is possible to obtain a high output voltage required by only a simple circuit. The low voltage drop ballast 110 having the high output voltage implemented as described above can be used as a power source of the high brightness light emitting diode used in the terminal liquid crystal device mentioned in the present invention, as well as other devices requiring high voltage. It can also be used as a power source.
Since the desired output voltage can be obtained with a simple circuit configuration, the circuit configuration is simplified and the size is reduced accordingly.
The required output voltage can be obtained by the diode alone without any additional device, which reduces the cost.
