Abstract

PURPOSE: A network interface card having functions for booting and network computing is provided to enable a computer to boot by driving an OS(Operating System) of network interface card instead of HDD(Hard Disk Drive) and to realize a thin client/server system through networking by using a thin client program. CONSTITUTION: The network interface card(10) consists of a memory(13) storing an OS to boot a computer, a decoder(12) decoding an address in order to recognize the memory as a hard disk and a controller(14) interfacing a server(20) by equipping a cable port(15). The network interface card drives by inserting to an ISA(Industry Standard Architecture) slot of a PC, especially an outmoded 486 or 586 type PC. At booting, the decoder makes the memory be recognized as a hard disk by not using A or C drive but a memory address D8000. The memory may use a flash memory and stores an OS for booting and a network program for networking to a server system.

Description

Network interface card having function of booting and network computing}Network interface card having function of booting and network computing

The present invention relates to a network interface card, and more particularly, to an interface card mounted on an ISA slot of a personal computer (PC) and having a booting function with network computing.

In the case of the conventional client / server method, since many tasks are processed on the client computer, a high performance client computer, that is, a fat client, is used to share information and perform work using a network. It requires a lot of maintenance and management, which leads to a loss of user friendliness and a large installation cost. In recent years, such a fat client / server system has been avoided, and a thin client / server system method that concentrates application loads distributed to clients in a conventional client / server system on a server is utilized. This is increasing. The thin client is a computer terminal that can be used as comfortably as a TV. Innovatively reduces hardware, such as chips and memory, compared to a personal computer (PC). And has the advantage of having reliability. Software for such thin client / server systems includes MetaFrame, which is provided by Citrix. The metaframe consists of a management function that runs an application and monitors system status, an access function that integrates heterogeneous computer environments and accesses a server, and Independent Computing (ICA). Thin client / server system that consists of a performance function that performs optimization of data compression by performing an optimized application in a network situation using an architecture) and a security function that performs security such as user authentication. Allows you to configure
