통상 수세식 변기에는 일정량의 물을 항상 저수, 대기토록하는 수조가 설치되어 용변후 수조내의 물이 변기로 일시 공급되도록 하므로서 변기를 세척토록 하고 있는바, 종래의 변기용 수조 특히 좌변기용 수조는 세라믹 재질의 장방형 형태를 가짐으로서 작은 충격에도 쉽게 파손되는 경우가 발생되었으며, 수조내의 물이 전량 배수되지 못하고 바닥에 잔존된 상태에서 또다시 물을 저수케 되어 수조의 바닥면에 불순물 및 물이끼등이 계속 축적되어 수조를 오염시키게 됨은 물론 유출구에 개폐구가 밀착되지 못하도록 하는 저해 요인이 되어 누수현상이 발생되었으며 수조내의 물이 단순히 수압에 의해 배수되므로써 변기의 세척효과가 미약하여 위생적이지 못하였고, 더욱이 개폐구가 축으로 유동 설치되어 개폐되므로서 고장 요인이 다분하여 누수현상 발생의 빈도 또한 잦았으며, 설치장소가 옥외이거나 보온이 잘안되는 장소일 경우 동절기에 수조가 동파되는 등의 문제점이 내포되었고, 아울러 수조가 반드시 변기의 후방에 고정 설치되도록 구성되므로서 설치면적을 크게 차지하게 되어 상대적으로 주택의 주거공간을 축소시키게 되는 문제점을 내포하게 되었던 것이다.In general, a flush toilet is provided with a water tank for storing a certain amount of water at all times and waiting for the water to be temporarily supplied to the toilet after a toilet.
