선진국에선 차량 운행시 탑승자가 안전벨트 착용율이 60%가 넘는다고 한다. 그러나 우리나라 차량 운전자는 안전벨트 착용율이 20% 미만이라고 하여, 정부차원에서 법규화 하여 계몽하고 있으나 대다수 운전자들이 안전벨트 착용을 등한시하고 있다. 언론이나 매스컴에서 정부에서 단속하니까 안전벨트 착용율이 90%까지 왔다고 하지만, 야간이나 시외로 벗어나면 착용율이 현저히 떨어짐을 확인할 수 있다.In developed countries, occupants wear more than 60 percent of their seat belts.
