The present invention relates to a reflective substrate assembly of a liquid crystal display device having a light diffusing function in order to increase the reflection efficiency of light, and a method of manufacturing the same.

The reflection type liquid crystal display device displays an image by reflecting light incident from the outside, and has an advantage in that power consumption is small because the backlight is not used, and it is advantageous in thinness and amount of curing.

A general configuration of such a reflective liquid crystal display device is shown in FIG. 4 well.

As shown in the figure, the reflective liquid crystal display device includes upper and lower substrates 2 and 4 arranged in pairs at regular intervals to face each other, and a color filter (not shown) is required on the lower surface of the upper substrate 2 as shown in the drawing. The reflective layer 6 and the diffusion layer 8 are laminated on the upper surface of the lower substrate 4. On the inner side of the lower substrate 4 on which the upper substrate 2, the reflective layer 6, and the protective layer 8 are formed, the transparent electrodes 10, 10 ', the insulating layers 12, 12' and the alignment layer ( 14) (14 ') are sequentially stacked. Both substrates 2 and 4 thus formed are assembled by sealing means (not shown), and the liquid crystal 16 is injected into the space therebetween.

In addition, a polarizing plate 18 and a diffusion plate 20 are attached to the outside of the upper substrate 2, and in the case of the STN-LCD, a retardation film is further provided on the upper or lower surface of the upper substrate 2 in particular.

In the reflective liquid crystal display device thus formed, the liquid crystal material is arranged in parallel with the substrate when the applied voltage is turned off, so that the incident external light is scattered to display a milky white screen. On the contrary, when the applied voltage is in the on-state, as the phase transitions, the light transmitted through the polarizing plate 18 is transmitted in the axial direction of the liquid crystal particles, and is reflected back from the reflective layer 6 to be emitted to the front surface to display an image. .

However, the above-mentioned reflective liquid crystal display device uses only about 50% of the external (natural) light that is naturally incident by linearly polarized light by the polarizing plate 18 in both TN and STN methods. have.

In improving this point, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 4-243246 introduces a reflection type liquid crystal display device in which the reflecting plate itself has a light diffusing effect, thereby improving light utilization efficiency.

The reflective liquid crystal display device introduced here forms a plurality of fine convex portions having the same shape by applying a photosensitive resin to one surface of a substrate and patterning using a photomask, and forming a reflective film on the entire upper surface thereof. Suggested reflector.

However, although the reflective liquid crystal display device improves light utilization efficiency and uniformly forms the curved shape of the reflecting plate, the manufacturing process of the reflecting plate has a complicated and cumbersome problem. In addition, there is a problem that the defective rate of the product is high and the manufacturing cost is increased for the same reason.

In order to solve the problems of the prior art described above, the present invention is to provide a light diffusing function of its own, to improve the use efficiency of light, and to facilitate the manufacture thereof.

To this end, the present invention provides a reflective substrate assembly of a liquid crystal display device in which a reflective layer is formed by using a mold in which a mixture of aluminum powder and a liquid resin is uniformly patterned, and a substrate is disposed on the mixture.

A protective layer may be further formed on the upper front side of the reflective layer as a smooth film. In addition, a transparent electrode, an insulating layer, and an alignment layer are sequentially formed on the reflective layer and the protective layer.

In addition, the present invention is a method for manufacturing a reflective substrate assembly of a liquid crystal display device, by applying a mixture of aluminum powder and a liquid resin to a mold formed with a concave-convex portion of a uniform pattern, and placing the substrate on the upper side of the mixture and then UV (UV) ) The reflective layer is formed by irradiation or thermal hardening.

EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION Hereinafter, preferred embodiment of this invention is described in detail based on an accompanying drawing. For reference, in describing the present invention, the same reference numerals will be used for the same components as those of the drawings cited in the related art.

1 shows a reflective liquid crystal display device according to the present invention, and FIG. 2 shows an enlarged view of main parts of the reflective substrate assembly of the present invention.

As shown in the drawing, the reflective liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes upper and lower substrates 2 and 4 which are arranged in pairs at regular intervals to face each other.

A transparent electrode 10, an insulating layer 12, and an alignment layer 14 are sequentially stacked on the lower surface of the upper substrate 2, and a polarizing plate 18 is attached to the upper surface thereof. Here, in the case of STN-LCD, a retardation film may be further installed on the upper surface or the lower surface of the upper substrate 2, and a color filter may be further installed on the lower surface of the upper substrate 2 to realize color.

In addition, a reflective layer 60 that is bent in a uniform pattern is formed on the upper surface of the lower substrate 4, and a transparent electrode 10 ′, an insulating layer 12 ′, and an alignment layer are formed on the upper side thereof. Since 14 'is sequentially stacked, the reflective substrate assembly of the present invention is constituted.

Here, the reflective layer 60 of the present invention forms a uniform and easy-to-control pattern using a molding molding method as shown in FIG. 3 in order to have a light diffusing effect and at the same time to easily realize the manufacturing process. The molding molding method is easier and more convenient than the conventional method of forming a photosensitive resin by using a photomask, and thus it is possible to reduce the cost of the product.

More specifically, in the present invention, first, a mixture 62 of aluminum powder and a liquid resin is injected and applied to a mold 24 having a uneven portion 22 having a uniform pattern, and a lower substrate (above the upper portion of the mixture 62). 4) Place. Subsequently, when the lower substrate 4 is transparent, ultraviolet rays are irradiated from the upper side thereof to form the reflective layer 60 and to be bonded to the lower substrate 4.

When the lower substrate 4 is opaque, the mold 24 is heated to form the reflective layer 60 and to be bonded to the lower substrate 4.

In order to more easily form the transparent electrode 10 ′, an upper surface of the reflective layer 60 may be further provided with a protective layer 80 having a flat top surface.

As described above, the reflective substrate assembly of the present invention manufactured by stacking the reflective layer 60, the transparent electrode 10 ', the insulating layer 12' and the alignment layer 14 'on the lower substrate 4 has a transparent electrode ( 10) and the upper substrate 2 on which the insulating layer 12 and the alignment layer 14 are formed are assembled by sealing means, and the liquid crystal 16 is injected into the space therebetween and sealed.

The polarizing plate 18 and the retardation film are attached to the upper substrate 2 after the injection and sealing process of the liquid crystal 16 in the manufacturing process.

Based on the reflective liquid crystal display device of the present invention thus formed, incident light from the outside is selected in a predetermined direction while passing through the polarization layer 18 and is incident on the liquid crystal 16 layer, and the liquid crystal layer is switched by the switching action. When the on voltage is applied to the electrode, the phase transition is transmitted, and is reflected and diffused from the reflective layer 60 formed on the lower substrate 4 to be emitted to the front of the device, thereby realizing an image with improved brightness.

As can be seen through the configuration and operation described above, the reflective substrate assembly and the method of manufacturing the liquid crystal display device according to the present invention forms a reflective layer having its own light diffusing function on the lower substrate, the reflective layer by a molding molding method Since it is easily formed by one process, the problem of the prior art is solved.

Therefore, according to the present invention, the use efficiency of light can be improved to improve the brightness and visibility of the image, and the manufacturing process can be easily realized, thereby improving productivity and reducing manufacturing cost.
