Abstract
The present invention relates to improved hard cleaning and in particular to improved manual dishwashing. The present invention comprises the steps of: a) treating an adsorbent carrier, such as a cloth or more preferably a sponge, with a surfactant composition capable of thickening by addition of water, b) treating the combination of the carrier and the surfactant composition with water. And c) performing a cleaning operation with a carrier after step (b). An advantage of the method is that the surfactant composition thickens in and remains in the carrier to prolong the release of the surfactant from the carrier.
Description
It is known that the viscosity of certain surfactant solutions can be affected by the concentration of the electrolyte in the solution. WO 93/08247 (Clorox: 1991) discloses that surfactant systems, including alkyl ether sulfate based systems, can be thickened by addition of an appropriate amount of electrolyte. European patent application EP 574086 (Colgate: 1992) discloses how salts in a composition can affect the viscosity of the composition. Such techniques are known and are often used in shampoo formulations and other personal wash compositions that select the concentration of the electrolyte and the surfactant to impart the peak viscosity of the selected surfactant system. It is known that the addition of excess electrolyte no longer thickens and the surfactant is 'salt precipitated' resulting in a lower viscosity.
It is known to prepare compositions which contain an excess of electrolyte and dilute with greater viscosity. European patent application EP 254653 (Cotelle SA and Henkel: 1986) generally relates to dilution-thickening concentrates and deals with compositions which thicken with excess NaCl.
WO 95/02664 (Jeyes Group: 1993) discloses a liquid concentrate which dilutes with water to produce a thickened product. This concentrate is made in combination with an alkyl ether sulfate, optionally anionic or nonionic or amphoteric, optionally cationic alone or nonionic, electrolyte and / or hydrotrope. The compositions disclosed in the documents cited above can be sold as concentrates and diluted prior to use to produce thickened compositions. Such rheological properties are considered to be advantageous for cleaning hard surfaces because such products do not flow from the surface. It is also advantageous in the shampoo composition that the product thicken in the presence of water because it does not wash the skin quickly.
In manual dishwashing techniques it is known to prepare highly diluted surfactant solutions (typically less than 0.1% by weight of surfactant in water) and to immerse the article to be cleaned in this solution. This is known in the art as 'bowl-washing'. Dilution- thickening manual dishwashing compositions are known. It is known to use liquid dilution-thickening compositions in manual dishwashing processes in the form of bowl-washing. International Patent Application Publication No. WO 93/03129 (Unilever: 1991) discloses a concentrated hard liquid containing a mixture of anionic and nonionic systems and a C 3-6 alkane diol solvent as a hydrotrop. .
In another manual dishwashing method it is known to use the concentrated surfactant composition directly on the article to be cleaned. Forms of the composition useful for this purpose may be gels or pastes and such compositions may be used on the surface of the article using a cloth or sponge. As a second alternative, it is known to prepare a wash liquor and deliver it to the surface of the article using an adsorbent carrier. For the purposes of the present invention, the term adsorptive carrier includes articles such as cloths or sponges. Considering operational aspects, the carrier can be used to deliver the cleaning liquid to the article to be cleaned.
One difficulty with the second alternative is that the surfactant content of the carrier needs to be quickly depleted and replenished upon use. In order to solve this problem, it has been known to provide a carrier comprising a support means such as steel wool and a solid surfactant composition impregnated therein. These carriers gradually release the surfactant over a period of time. However, once the surfactant is depleted the feed generally cannot be resupplied.
Brief description of the invention
In the carrier, the present inventors have now confirmed that by using a method of diluting and thickening the surfactant composition, the time for using the carrier can be significantly increased before the surfactant present on the carrier is depleted. It became. This allows the carrier to be treated with a surfactant that thickens in the carrier so that the reservoir of surfactant present therein can be replenished.
Therefore, the present invention
a) 물을 첨가하여 증점시킬 수 있는 계면활성제 조성물로 흡착성 담체를 처리하는 단계,a) treating the adsorbent carrier with a surfactant composition that can be thickened by addition of water,
b) 담체와 계면활성제 조성물과의 배합물을 물로 처리하는 단계, 및b) treating the combination of carrier and surfactant composition with water, and
c) (a) 및 (b) 단계 후에 담체로 세정 작업을 수행하는 단계로 이루어지는 세정 방법을 제공한다.c) a cleaning method comprising the step of performing a cleaning operation with a carrier after steps (a) and (b).
It is contemplated that the use of a dilute thickening composition in combination with a carrier will cause the surfactant to remain on the carrier and release over a fairly long time. Thus, increasing the viscosity by diluting the selected composition in the process of the present invention advantageously combines with the delivery properties of the porous substrate to prolong the real name of the substrate during the cleaning process.
In addition, the present invention
a) 물을 첨가하여 증점시킬 수 있는 계면활성제 조성물과,a) a surfactant composition which can be thickened by adding water,
b) 흡착성 담체로 이루어진 키트를 제공한다.b) a kit consisting of an adsorptive carrier.
With particular reference to the manual dishwashing method, the invention is described in more detail below. Although the preferred cleaning method according to the invention is a manual dishwashing method, there is no intention to exclude other cleaning methods, including personal cleaning, from the scope of the invention.
The present invention relates to improved hard cleaning and in particular to improved manual dishwashing.
Typically, the compositions of the present invention comprise one or more surfactants whose viscosity of the solution is strongly influenced by the prevailing concentration of the electrolyte. Other means of increasing the viscosity upon dilution are known, but preference is given to using electrolytes. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the presence of the dissolved electrolyte in excess results in thickening of the diluted concentrate by the presence of a selected surfactant which reduces the thickening effect in the concentrate. Thus, dilution of the concentrate reduces the concentration of the dissolved electrolyte and subsequently the surfactant component can exert its thickening effect.
In a practical embodiment of the invention, preferably, by dipping at least a portion of the carrier in the surfactant composition or otherwise exposing the carrier to the surfactant composition, for example by pouring or otherwise dispensing the surfactant composition on the carrier, preferably The carrier, which is a sponge, is treated with a surfactant composition. The combination of the carrier and the composition is immersed in water or treated with water by simple means starting with a wet carrier. As a result of dilution of the electrolyte, the concentration of the electrolyte is reduced to be sufficient to prevent the surfactant from thickening, thereby increasing the viscosity of the surfactant composition. As mentioned above, due to the increase in viscosity, the surfactant remains on the carrier and is released over a fairly long time.
Preferred surfactant concentrations range from 2 to 40% by weight in the product. Particular preference is given to total surfactant levels in the range from 7.5 to 30% by weight.

실시예 IExample I
A series of examples and comparative examples using the method of the present invention were prepared and the results are shown in Table 2 below. The blends used are shown in Table 1 below. The dilution viscosity profiles of the compositions according to the invention are shown in Table 3.
Compositions I and II were prepared by simple mixing of the components listed in Table 1. Composition I is a composition for use in the method of the invention and composition II is a control composition. Both compositions had an initial viscosity of 600 cps as measured using a Haake viscometer at a shear rate of 75.04 s −1 .
Product retention was measured by first applying 3 g of composition I or II to the sponge followed by 15 g of water. After application, the sponge was manually compressed to foam and the wash liquid drained into a beaker. The sponge was then treated with an additional 15 g of water, repeating this process each time collecting the liquid in a new beaker until no more foaming occurred when the liquid was discharged. The content of the beaker was chemically analyzed to determine the concentration of the surfactant. The concentration is shown in Table 2 below.
From the results in Table 2, Composition I shows apparent retention of the product on the sponge and prolongs the release of the surfactant from the sponge, i.e. using Composition I, an embodiment of the present invention, excessively containing the surfactant-containing product It can be seen that a longer washing process can be carried out without consuming.
Table 3 below provides the viscosity / dilution data for Compositions I and II. It can be seen that the composition I increases in viscosity as it is diluted. On the other hand, composition II decreased in viscosity continuously with dilution.
