Description
The present invention relates to a paste composition for companion animals and a method for producing the same, and more specifically, to a paste composition for companion animals which includes both water-soluble and fat-soluble functional ingredients while minimizing the use of surfactants and ensuring physicochemical stability, and a method for producing the same.
Recently, due to the increase in single-person households, low birth rates, and aging population, the number of households living with pets has been continuously increasing, and the tendency to recognize pets as members of the family is growing stronger.
Accordingly, as interest in the well-care of companion animals grows, various pet foods including feed, supplementary feed, snacks such as gum, beverages, and nutritional supplements containing various functional ingredients are being released.
In particular, most pet nutritional supplements containing functional ingredients are manufactured in tablet form, which makes it difficult to administer them directly to pets. Even if they are mixed with feed and administered, this is also cumbersome and the mixing with the feed is not done well, resulting in low efficiency. Considering these problems, a nutritional supplement in the form of a paste can be proposed as a way to improve the convenience of administration.
However, when manufacturing a paste-type composition containing various functional ingredients, there are various factors that harm the physicochemical stability of the active ingredients and the paste itself, and solutions for these must be sought.
For example, if a paste composition is intended to contain both water-soluble and fat-soluble components as functional ingredients, the dispersion media for each component may separate from each other over time. In addition, if the physical stability of the functional ingredients is not secured, phase separation, precipitation, and coagulation may occur during the storage period, and problems such as chemical decomposition may occur, resulting in a decrease in the content.
Meanwhile, a large amount of surfactant can be used to prevent phase separation of functional ingredients and dissolve poorly dissolved ingredients, but the more surfactant is used, the more side effects in the gastrointestinal tract and skin diseases may occur after ingestion, and the characteristic bitter taste may have the adverse effect of reducing palatability.
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a paste composition for companion animals which includes both water solubility and fat solubility as a functional ingredient, while minimizing the use of a surfactant and ensuring physicochemical stability, and a method for producing the same.

In addition, collagen is a substance that functions as the main protein of all connective tissues in the body such as skin, blood vessels, and bones, and can prevent immune deficiency, skin diseases, and hair loss that often occur in companion animals that mainly live indoors. In addition, lutein is a substance that is good for preventing macular degeneration and cataracts, and helps maintain healthy eyes by protecting eye cells, and helps protect the eyes from oxidative stress and high-energy photons of blue light.
Since companion animals cannot produce essential fatty acids such as omega 3 and omega 6 in their bodies, they must ingest them through their diet. To supplement this, vegetable oil was selected as the composition of the oil phase. The vegetable oil may be selected from olive oil, canola oil, linseed oil, corn oil, sunflower seed oil, grape seed oil, walnut oil, cottonseed oil, avocado oil, Brazil nut oil, and almond oil, but is not limited thereto. Preferably, the vegetable oil may be included in an amount of 10 to 60 wt% based on the total amount of the composition. If the content exceeds this range, phase separation may occur after paste manufacture or during storage.
Surfactants or emulsifiers are used to reduce the surface tension between two substances that are difficult to mix among the substances added to the paste by utilizing the property of emulsifying oil and water, and to evenly disperse them. Available emulsifiers include sorbitan fatty acid ester, glycerin fatty acid ester, sucrose fatty acid ester, propylene glycol fatty acid ester, polysorbate (polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid ester, tween 60 or 80), lecithin, saponin, etc. The daily allowable standards for emulsifiers are 0 to 125 mg/kg for glycerin fatty acid esters, 0 to 30 mg/kg for sucrose fatty acid esters, 0 to 20 mg/kg for propylene glycol fatty acid esters, and 0 to 25 mg/kg for polyoxyethylene sorbitan fatty acid esters (polysorbates). If ingested in amounts exceeding a certain amount, these emulsifiers can remain in the body for more than 5 days and can cause skin diseases, eye diseases, heart diseases, neuropsychiatric diseases, etc. In order to reduce these problems and improve physical stability, plant-based emulsifiers were included, and 0.1 to 5 wt% was included in the total amount of the composition, which is a small amount compared to the emulsifier content in general health functional foods.
Saturated fat oil is used to improve the physical stability of the paste, such as viscosity and sedimentation, and to increase the palatability of companion animals. Available saturated fat oils include palm oil, shea butter, coconut oil, argan oil, and soybean oil. Preferably, the saturated fat oil can be mixed in an amount of 5 to 35 wt% based on the total amount of the composition, and if the content of the saturated fat oil is out of the above numerical range, it is difficult to secure physical stability, such as phase separation, sedimentation, and coagulation.
The protein is a protein powder processed from soybeans, black soybeans, kidney beans, etc., and is used for the purpose of improving physical stability such as phase separation, precipitation, and coagulation, and increasing the nutritional supply to companion animals through protein supply. Available proteins include soy protein isolate ISP processed from beans, Supro 661, and defatted soybean powder. Preferably, the vegetable proteins may be included in an amount of 10 to 40 wt% based on the total amount of the composition. If the protein content is lower than that specified above, phase separation may occur and physical stability may deteriorate.
