A method for providing a user interface for internet protocol television service while downloading comprises the steps of: selecting contents which are favored by a user from set-top boxes(S130); downloading the selected contents by a down & play method(S140); providing thumbnail information of the contents when downloading(S150); and displaying the thumbnail information of the contents and the downloaded progressive condition during the buffering time(S160). The thumbnail information of the contents includes poster image file information of the contents.
