Abstract

본 발명은 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법에 관한 것으로서, AP (Access Point; AP)로부터 전송 채널(Transmission Channel)의 사용 권한을 부여 받을 때 미리 결정된 개수의 데이터 프레임들을 연속적으로 전송함으로써, 이동 통신 단말기의 송신 전력을 절감 시킬 수 있다. 이를 위한 본 발명은 전송하려는 데이터 프레임을 버퍼에 저장하고 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정하는 단계와, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송이 결정될 때, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임을 AP에 전송하는 단계를 포함하여 구성한다.

본 발명은 이동 통신 단말기에 관한 것으로서, 특히 이동 통신 단말기의 송신 전력을 절감 시킬 수 있는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
일반적으로, 이동 통신 단말기는 BS (Base Station; BS)에 의해 형성되는 서비스 영역 안에서 이동하면서 MSC(Mobile Switching Center; MSC)의 스위칭 제어를 통해 언제 어디서나 즉시 상대방을 무선 호출 및 무선 접속하여 통신할 수 있는 장 치로서, 음성 통신 뿐만 아니라 기호, 숫자, 문자 등으로 이루어지는 데이터 통신 및 영상 신호가 포함되는 멀티미디어 통신이 가능하다.
상기 이동 통신 단말기에 무선 랜 모듈을 장착함으로써, 무선 랜(Wireless LAN)의 구축이 일상 생활에서 점차 보편화되고 있다. 상기 무선 랜은 케이블 배선 공사가 필요 없기 때문에 네트워크 설치가 용이하고 광대역 전파의 사용으로 초고속 데이터 통신이 가능하다는 큰 특징이 있다.
상기 무선 랜을 구축하는 방식은 무선 랜 모듈만으로 상기 이동 통신 단말기들 사이에서 데이터를 전송할 때 이용하는 애드 혹 방식(Ad-Hoc Mode)과 기존의 유선 망과의 다리 역할을 하는 AP(Access Point; AP)를 이용하는 방법으로 크게 구분할 수 있다. 특히, 상기 AP를 이용하는 방식은 유선 랜과 상호 접속이 가능하고 이동 중에도 네트워크 접속이 가능할 뿐만 아니라 보안 기능이 사용될 수도 있다.
이와 같은 무선 랜 네트워크를 통해 초고속으로 데이터를 송수신할 수 있는 이동 통신 단말기의 개발이 활발해지고 있는 실정이다. 이하에서는, 종래 기술에 따른 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 원리를 도 1을 참조하여 설명한다.

도 1에 도시한 바와 같이, 종래 기술에 따른 이동 통신 단말기는 데이터 프레임의 전송을 요청하는 RTS (Request To Send; RTS) 프레임을 송신하고 상기 데이터 프레임의 전송을 허락하는 CTS (Clear To Send; CTS) 프레임을 수신함으로써 전송 채널을 점유한다. 이에, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 점유된 전송 채널을 통 해 SIFS (Short Inter Frame Space; SIFS)의 시간 간격을 기다린 후에 하나의 데이터 프레임을 상기 AP에 전송함으로써, 상기 AP는 상기 데이터 프레임을 수신하고 상기 SIFS의 시간 간격을 기다린 후에 ACK 프레임을 상기 이동 통신 단말기에 전송한다.
이때, 상기 무선 랜에서, 프레임들 간의 시간 간격을 IFS (Inter Frame Space; IFS)라고 하고 무선매체 접속에 대한 우선 순위를 제공하기 위해 SIFS (Short Inter Frame Space; SIFS), PIFS (PCF Inter Frame Space; PIFS), DIFS (DCF Inter Frame Space; DIFS), EIFS (Extended Inter Frame Space; EIFS)들로 정의된 4개의 서로 다른 IFS가 존재한다.
그러나, 종래 기술에 따른 이동 통신 단말기는 AP (Access Point; AP)로부터 전송 채널의 사용 권한을 부여 받을 때 하나의 데이터 프레임만을 전송함으로써, 하나의 데이터 프레임을 전송하기 위한 전송 채널의 사용 권한을 부여 받기 위해 RTS, CTS 프레임을 매번 전송해야 하기 때문에 이동 통신 단말기의 송신 전력이 크다는 문제점이 있었다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 제안된 것으로, 본 발명의 목적은 AP (Access Point; AP)로부터 전송 채널(Transmission Channel)의 사용 권한을 부여 받을 때 미리 결정된 개수의 데이터 프레임을 연속적으로 전송함으로써, 이동 통신 단말기의 송신 전력을 절감 시킬 수 있도록 한 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법을 제공하는 데 있다.
상기 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법은 전송하려는 데이터 프레임을 버퍼에 저장하고 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정하는 단계와, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송이 결정될 때, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임을 AP에 전송하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법은 이동 통신 단말기가 RTS (Request To Send) 프레임을 AP에 전송하고 상기 AP로부터 CTS (Clear To Send) 프레임을 수신하여 전송 채널을 점유함으로써, 미리 결정된 N 개의 데이터 프레임을 연속적으로 전송하는 무선 랜에 있어서, 상기 이동 통신 단말기가 N번째 데이터 프레임을 상기 AP에 전송하는 단계와; 상기 N번째 데이터 프레임에 대한 N번째 ACK 프레임을 수신하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
이하에서는, AP (Access Point; AP)로부터 전송 채널(Transmission Channel)의 사용 권한을 부여 받을 때 미리 결정된 개수의 데이터 프레임들을 연속적으로 전송함으로써, 이동 통신 단말기의 송신 전력을 절감 시킬 수 있는 본 발명에 따른 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법에 대한 실시 예를 첨부한 도면을 참조하여 설명한다.
도 2는 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 송신하는 방법을 나타내는 흐름도 이다.
도 2에 도시한 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법은 전송하려는 데이터 프레임(Data Frame)을 버퍼(Buffer)에 저장하는 단계(S210)와; 상기 데이터 프레임이 저장될 때, 전송 타이머(Transmission Timer)를 구동하는 단계(S220)와; 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 미리 결정된 개수와 일치하는 지를 확인하는 단계(S230)와; 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 미리 결정된 개수와 일치할 때, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정하는 단계(S250)와; 상기 데이터 프레임의 전송이 결정될 때, 전송 채널을 점유하는 단계(S260)와; 상기 점유된 전송 채널을 통해 상기 결정된 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 단계(S270)와; 상기 데이터 프레임이 전송될 때, 상기 구동된 전송 타이머를 종료하는 단계(S280)를 포함한다.
이때, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 미리 결정된 개수와 일치하지 않을 때 상기 구동된 전송 타이머의 값과 상기 미리 결정된 값을 비교함으로써(S240), 상기 전송 타이머의 값이 상기 미리 결정된 값보다 클 때 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정하고 상기 전송 타이머의 값이 상기 미리 결정된 값보다 작을 때 상기 전송하려는 데이터 프레임을 계속해서 저장한다.
이와 같이 이루어진 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법을 상세히 설명하면 다음과 같다.
먼저, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 전송하려는 데이터 프레임을 버퍼에 저장하고(S210) 상기 전송 타이머를 구동한다(S220). 즉, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 구동된 전송 타이머를 통해 상기 버퍼에 데이터 프레임이 지속적으로 저장되고 있는지를 확인할 수 있다. 여기서, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 이동 통신이 가능한 휴대폰, PDA (Personal Digital Assistants; PDA), 노트북들 중에 어느 하나인 것이 바람직하다.
상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수와 상기 미리 결정된 개수를 비교한다(S230). 즉, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 상기 미리 결정된 개수보다 클 때, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정한다.
반면, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 상기 미리 결정된 개수보다 작을 때, 상기 전송 타이머의 값과 상기 미리 결정된 값을 비교한다(S240). 즉, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 전송 타이머의 값이 상기 미리 결정된 값보다 작을 때 상기 전송하려는 데이터 프레임을 상기 버퍼에 저장하고, 상기 전송 타이머의 값이 상기 미리 결정된 값보다 클 때 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정한다(S250).
이와 같이 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 전송 타이머를 구동하고 상기 전송 타이머의 값과 상기 미리 결정된 값을 비교함으로써, 전송하려는 데이터 프레임이 간헐적으로 발생할 때 상기 버퍼에 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 상기 미리 결정된 개수와 일치하지 않더라도 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송 지연을 방지할 수 있다.
따라서, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송이 결정될 때, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임을 상기 AP에 전송하기 위한 전송 채널을 점유한다(S260). 즉, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 데이터 프레임의 전송을 요청하는 RTS (Request To Send; RTS) 프레임을 상기 AP에 전송함으로써, 상기 AP는 상기 RTS 프레임을 근거로 상기 데이터 프레임의 전송을 허가하는 CTS (Clear To Send; CTS) 프레임을 상기 이동 통신 단말기에 전송한다.
이때, 상기 RTS프레임은 데이터 프레임을 전송하려는 이동 통신 단말기의 주소와 NAV (Network Allocation Vector; NAV) 설정에 사용되는 듀레이션 필드(Duration Field)를 포함하고 있다. 따라서, 상기 RTS 프레임을 수신한 AP는 RTS프레임에 대한 응답으로서 CTS 프레임을 전송하고, 상기 AP의 서비스 영역 이내에 있는 다른 이동 통신 단말기들은 자신의 NAV를 상기 수신된 RTS 프레임에 포함된 듀레이션 필드의 값으로 설정한 후에 자신의 NAV를 줄여나가면서 상기 AP로의 접속을 기다린다.
또한, 무선 랜에서, 프레임들 간의 시간 간격을 IFS (Inter Frame Space; IFS)라고 하고 무선매체 접속에 대한 우선 순위를 제공하기 위해 SIFS (Short Inter Frame Space; SIFS), PIFS (PCF Inter Frame Space; PIFS), DIFS (DCF Inter Frame Space; DIFS), EIFS (Extended Inter Frame Space; EIFS)들로 정의된 4개의 서로 다른 IFS가 존재한다.
특히, 상기 SIFS는 가장 짧은 IFS로서 ACK, CTS 프레임, 연속되는 프레그먼테이션(Fragmentation) 프레임 등에 주로 사용된다.
이후, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 수신된 CTS 메시지를 근거로 상기 버퍼 에 저장된 데이터 프레임을 전송하고(S270), 상기 구동된 전송 타이머를 종료한다(S280).
예를 들면, 상기 이동 통신 단말기가 2개의 데이터 프레임을 연속적으로 전송할 때를 설명한다. 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 CTS 메시지를 수신하고 상기 SIFS의 시간 간격을 기다린 후에 제 1 데이터 프레임을 상기 AP에 전송함으로써, 상기 AP는 상기 제 1 데이터 프레임을 수신하고 상기 SIFS의 시간 간격을 기다린 후에 제 1 ACK 프레임을 상기 이동 통신 단말기에 전송한다.
이에, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 제 1 ACK 프레임을 수신하고 상기 SIFS의 시간 간격을 기다린 후에 제 2 데이터 프레임을 상기 AP에 전송함으로써, 상기 AP는 상기 제 2 데이터 프레임을 수신하고 상기 SIFS의 시간 간격을 기다린 후에 제 2 ACK 프레임을 상기 이동 통신 단말기에 전송한다.
이와 같은 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 전송하려는 데이터 프레임의 개수를 미리 결정함으로써, 하나의 데이터 프레임을 보낼 때마다 매번 전송 채널을 점유하지 않고 한번의 전송 채널 점유로 상기 미리 결정된 개수의 데이터 프레임을 연속적으로 전송할 수 있다. 이와 같은 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 원리를 도 3을 참조하여 설명한다.
도 3은 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 원리를 설명하기 위한 도면이다.
도 3에 도시한 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기는 데이터 프레임의 전송을 요청하는 RTS 프레임을 송신하고 상기 데이터 프레임의 전 송을 허락하는 CTS 프레임을 수신함으로써 전송 채널을 점유한다. 이에, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 점유된 전송 채널을 통해 미리 결정된 N개의 데이터 프레임을 연속적으로 전송할 수 있다. 즉, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 SIFS (Short Inter Frame Space; SIFS)의 시간 간격을 기다린 후에 제 N번째 데이터 프레임을 전송하여 상기 전송된 제 N 번째 데이터 프레임에 대한 ACK 메시지를 수신하고 SIFS의 시간 간격 후에 제 N+1 번째 데이터 프레임을 연속적으로 전송할 수 있다. 여기서, 상기 미리 결정된 N은 사용자에 의해서 미리 설정되고 적어도 1 이상인 것이 바람직하다.
이후, 마지막 데이터 프레임의 전송이 끝난 후에 상기 DIFS의 시간 간격 동안 상기 AP가 유휴 상태(Idle State)가 될 때, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 바로 상기 AP에 접속하는 것이 아니라 랜덤 백오프 시간(Random Backoff Time)을 생성하고 상기 생성된 랜덤 백오프 시간동안 상기 AP에 대한 접근을 기다리게 된다. 이것은 마지막 데이터 프레임의 전송이 끝난 후에 상기 AP에 접근하려는 이동 통신 단말기들의 접속 충돌의 가능성을 줄이기 위한 것이다.
이때, 가장 짧은 랜덤 백오프 시간을 생성한 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 AP의 접속에 성공하게 됨으로써, 상기 RTS 프레임을 전송한다. 모든 프레임에는 상기 듀레이션 필드가 포함되어 있고, 이동 통신 단말기는 현재 NAV보다 더 큰 듀레이션 필드를 수신할 경우에만 상기 NAV를 갱신한다. 이에, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는 상기 NAV가 0이 될 때, 상기 AP가 유휴 상태라고 판단하고 상기 DIFS의 시간 간격동안 기다린 후 자신의 랜덤 백오프 시간을 줄여나가면서 상기 AP로의 접속을 시도한 다.
이상에서 상세히 설명한 바와 같이, 본 발명에 따른 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법은 AP (Access Point; AP)로부터 전송 채널의 사용 권한을 부여 받을 때 미리 결정된 개수의 데이터 프레임을 연속적으로 전송함으로써, 하나의 데이터 프레임을 전송할 때마다 전송 채널을 점유하기 위한 RTS, CTS 프레임의 불필요한 송신을 줄이기 때문에 이동 통신 단말기의 송신 전력을 절감 시킬 수 있는 효과가 있다.

Claims (16)

  1. 이동 통신 단말기가 전송 채널을 점유하여 AP(Access Point)로 데이터 프레임을 전송하는 방법에 있어서,
    이동통신 단말기가 전송하려는 데이터 프레임을 버퍼에 저장하고 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정하는 단계와;
    상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송이 결정될 때, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임을 AP(Access Point)에 전송하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  2. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정하는 단계는,
    상기 전송하려는 데이터 프레임을 상기 버퍼에 저장하고 전송 타이머를 구동하는 단계와;
    상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 미리 결정된 개수와 일치하는지를 확인하는 단계와;
    상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 상기 미리 결정된 개수와 일치할 때, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  3. 제 2항에 있어서, 상기 미리 결정된 개수는,
    사용자에 의해 미리 결정되는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  4. 제 2항에 있어서, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 개수가 상기 미리 결정된 개수와 일치하지 않을 때, 상기 전송 타이머의 값과 미리 결정된 값을 비교하는 단계와; 상기 전송 타이머의 값이 상기 미리 결정된 값보다 클 때, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임의 전송을 결정하는 단계를 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  5. 제 4항에 있어서, 상기 전송 타이머의 값이 상기 미리 결정된 값보다 작을 때, 상기 전송하려는 데이터 프레임을 저장하는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  6. 제 1항에 있어서, 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임을 상기 AP에 전송하는 단계는,
    상기 저장된 데이터 프레임을 전송하기 위한 전송 채널을 점유하는 단계와;
    상기 점유된 전송 채널을 통해 상기 저장된 데이터 프레임을 상기 AP에 연속적으로 전송하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  7. 제 6항에 있어서, 상기 전송 채널을 점유하는 단계는,
    상기 데이터 프레임의 전송을 요청하는 RTS (Request To Send) 프레임을 상기 AP에 송신하는 단계와;
    상기 송신된 RTS 프레임에 대한 응답으로 CTS (Clear To Send) 프레임을 수신함으로써, 상기 전송 채널을 점유하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  8. 이동 통신 단말기가 RTS (Request To Send) 프레임을 AP(Access Point)에 전송하고 상기 AP로부터 CTS(Clear To Send) 프레임을 수신하여 전송 채널을 점유하여, 미리 결정된 N 개의 데이터 프레임을 연속적으로 전송하는 무선 랜에 있어서,
    이동 통신 단말기가 N번째 데이터 프레임을 AP에 전송하는 단계와;
    상기 N번째 데이터 프레임에 대한 N번째 ACK 프레임을 수신하는 단계를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  9. 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 RTS 프레임은,
    상기 이동 통신 단말기의 주소와 NAV (Network Allocation Vector)를 설정하는 듀레이션 필드를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  10. 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 RTS 프레임과 상기 CTS 프레임 사이의 시간 간격은 SIFS (Short Inter Frame Space) 주기인 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  11. 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 CTS 프레임과 첫번째 데이터 프레임 사이의 시간 간격은 SIFS (Short Inter Frame Space) 주기인 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  12. 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 미리 결정된 N은,
    적어도 1 이상인 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  13. 제 12항에 있어서, 상기 미리 결정된 N은,
    사용자에 의해 미리 결정되는 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  14. 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 전송된 N 번째 데이터 프레임과 상기 N 번째 ACK 프레임 사이의 시간 간격은 SIFS (Short Inter Frame Space)의 시간 간격인 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  15. 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 N 번째 ACK 프레임과 전송될 N+1 번째 데이터 프레임 사이의 시간 간격은 SIFS (Short Inter Frame Space)의 시간 간격인 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
  16. 제 8항에 있어서, 상기 이동 통신 단말기는,
    휴대폰, PDA (Personal Digital Assistants), 노트북들 중에 어느 하나인 것을 특징으로 하는 무선 랜에서 이동 통신 단말기의 데이터 프레임 전송 방법.
