However, due to the nature of using a remote control, there are many restrictions on the selection of a program using EPG information in a TV or set top box for digital broadcasting.

In the case of digital broadcasting, the number of channels is much higher than that of analog broadcasting, and it is expected to reach about 1000. In addition, since the broadcasting station will transmit EPG information for several days for each channel, the EPG information to be searched will be considerable. At this time, navigation with a remote control or the like to find the desired information is very inconvenient from the user's point of view and requires a lot of time and effort to search.

In an effort to remedy these limitations, text search is now available in Tivo's products, which have recently introduced analog time-shifted TVs.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a keyword search function for all text information related to a program as well as a program title, thereby increasing the accuracy of EPG search and greatly reducing the search time by quickly checking whether a keyword exists in the index. .

Another object of the present invention is to provide an EPG information retrieval apparatus using a keyword index for effectively implementing the above object of the present invention.

The present invention can be applied when searching for text information in any system using the EPG protocol such as Tivo or ReplayTV, and can be used to search for recorded program information in time-shifted digital TVs or set-top boxes.
