The present invention generally relates to a method for patterning nanometer-level sizes that can be utilized as new materials having new physical properties or as sensors or active devices that respond to external environments.
Until now, a semiconductor process has been mainly used as a method of fixing a nanomaterial to have a predetermined pattern on a substrate. An example of such a process is to deposit Au or Al onto a silicon wafer onto a substrate using devices such as a sputtering machine, a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) device, and a beam evaporator. It is well known how to put a desired substance. At this time, the nanomaterial is deposited after masking the shape using a lithography machine according to the shape of the photoresist previously processed on the substrate in order to form a desired shape. The etching process allows the nanomaterial to be fixed to the substrate by selectively leaving only the desired shape and removing the remaining portions. This method has the advantage of achieving a very stable process and a line width of up to 0.1 μm, but the materials that can be used are very limited, some processes have to be carried out at high temperatures, and the size of the process equipment exceeds 300 mm. There is a disadvantage that it is difficult to work on the substrate. In addition, there is a limit in the resolution in the optical (optical) method, there is a big problem that the overall cost to overcome this limitation increases exponentially.
(L. Yan;X. M. Zhao;G. M. Whitesides. "Patterning a preformed, reactive SAM using microcontact printing." Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1998, 120 (24), 6179-6180 ).Recently, new patterning methods are emerging. A method such as micro-contact printing is a method in which a surface of a stamp having a prepared shape is first deposited with ink, and then transferred by contact on a substrate to be printed as it is. In this case, generally, the substrate to be transferred is coated with a material such as Au so that an ink (nano material) is well fixed. (L. Yan; X. M. Zhao; G. M. Whitesides. "Patterning a preformed, reactive SAM using microcontact printing." Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1998, 120 (24), 6179-6180).
(S Zankovych, etc., Nanoimprint lithography: challenges and prospects, Nanotechnology 12, 2001,91-95). As a similar method, Nano Imprinting technology is a method of forming a concave-convex shape pre-fabricated to form a shape on the substrate by first coating the nanomaterial required on the substrate with a photoresist to form the shape to be transferred. By pressing the plate (plate) having a shape to form or by irradiating UV light (UV light) it is patterned by the method of transferring the shape. This method is similarly difficult to go beyond the precision of conventional optical lithography because of the need to make a master plate, and also has the disadvantage of limiting materials suitable for pressurization or UV processes. And the handling of a wide range of substrates is less accurate (S Zankovych, etc., Nanoimprint lithography: challenges and prospects, Nanotechnology 12, 2001, 91-95).
1998년에 와일더(K. Wilder) 등은 AFM(Atomic Force Microscope)을 이용하여 선폭이 30 nm정도의 패턴을 형성하는 실험을 수행하였다(K. Wilder, D. Adderton, R. Bernstein, V. Elings, and C. F. Quate, "Noncontact nanolithography using the atomic force microscope," Appl. Phys. Lett., vol. 73, no. 17, 2527-2529,1998). Soft lithography in pattern formation using Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) since IBM first successfully experimented with nanometer-sized patterns using Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) (soft lithography) technology has become a research area. In 1998, K. Wilder et al. Conducted an experiment using AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) to form a pattern with a line width of about 30 nm (K. Wilder, D. Adderton, R. Bernstein, V. Elings). , and CF Quate, "Noncontact nanolithography using the atomic force microscope," Appl. Phys. Lett., vol. 73, no. 17, 2527-2529,1998). This is a method of engraving a shape on a photoresist on a substrate by generating an electron beam by applying a voltage to the tip of the AFM. This method is still under study at the laboratory level because of throughput issues.
(R. Piner, S. Hong, C. A. Mirkin, Improved Imaging of Soft Materials with Modified AFM tips, Langmuir 15, 5457,1999 ). In addition, as a method of pattern formation using AFM, organic materials were used as ink at the tip of AFM tip, and then a pattern was written like writing with a pen on a substrate such as Au. This method is called dip pen nano technology, and the organic material used as ink flows down the substrate by diffusion at the tip of the AFM and combines with the molecules on the substrate to form a pattern. (R. Piner, S. Hong, CA Mirkin, Improved Imaging of Soft Materials with Modified AFM tips, Langmuir 15, 5457,1999).
Recently, a method of growing and patterning nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on a substrate by using a CVD technique and a conventional semiconductor process has been developed. This method first applies a catalyst to allow CNTs to grow on the substrate. At this time, the catalyst can be applied in a desired shape using a semiconductor process. The catalyst coated substrate is placed in a furnace through which a hydrocarbon gas flows, and the catalyst and carbon gas react to grow CNTs. Recently developed technologies allow the CNT to grow to a certain diameter by controlling the size or amount of catalyst. This method can be applied to a field emission device. However, this method also has the disadvantage that the operation must be performed in a high temperature environment, and the disadvantage that the patterning precision is determined according to the degree of applying the catalyst. In addition, the characteristics of CNTs grown during CNT growth cannot be easily adjusted to metallic or semi-conducting properties, and physical and chemical properties cannot be controlled, thereby satisfying the desired mechanical, electrical, and chemical properties simultaneously. It is very difficult to manufacture a structure.
Conventionally, a method using electrophoresis is known as a method for vertically aligning an elongated nanomaterial such as a nanotube on a substrate. This method involves two parallel electrodes placed facing each other in a
Accordingly, the present invention is to provide a method capable of forming nanometer-level patterned structures using nanomaterials such as CNTs, metal nanoparticles, organic / inorganic molecules, and biomaterials such as proteins on an integrated substrate. The purpose.
In order to achieve the above object, in the present inventors, in order to selectively arrange various nanomaterials on a specific site on a substrate, an electric field gradient may be formed on the substrate to be attached to a specific shape on the surface. The present invention was completed based on the discovery that applying a voltage later makes it possible to easily manufacture a nanopattern structure in which a nanomaterial is patterned into a desired shape by dielectric electrophoresis.
Therefore, according to the present invention, a pair of electrode plates including at least one electrode plate for a substrate on which a plurality of protrusions are formed in a predetermined pattern is arranged to face each other, and at least the surface of the electrode plate on which the protrusions are formed is in contact with a solution in which nanomaterials are spread. Afterwards, a method of patterning nanomaterials is formed by applying a voltage to two electrodes so that the nanomaterials are attached to the protrusions by electrochemical forces including dielectric phenomena due to the formation of a non-uniform electric field. Is provided.
In addition, according to the present invention there is provided a nanopattern structure produced by the above method.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail.
In general, dielectrophoresis was discovered by Pohl. HA in the 1950s and induced dipole moments in the case of dielectric particles placed in a dielectric medium with a non-uniform electric field. It is a phenomenon in which the electric field gradient is shifted to a large side, which is different from electrophoresis, which is caused by the charge that a dielectric particle has on its own.
With reference to Figure 2 will be briefly described the principle of the electrophoresis according to the present invention. When a solution in which particles are spread is placed in a bath in which a plate-shaped
The present invention is based on this principle, the use of a substrate electrode plate formed with a plurality of protrusions in a desired pattern on the surface of the nanomaterials in the spontaneous interaction between the substrate and the nanomaterials in each of the protrusions where the electric field is severely changed By attaching vertically, as a result, the nanomaterial is attached to the electrode plate in the above-described pattern, so that the electrode plate to which the nanomaterial is attached forms a nanopattern structure.
Herein, the electrode plate for the substrate may be an electrode plate itself, and is used in a meaning including a separate substrate having a protrusion formed in a predetermined pattern and electrically connected to and detachably attached to the electrode plate.
In addition, in the present invention, the nano material is a nano-molecule in the form of particles such as Au and Cu, a nano structure having a rod shape such as nanotube, nanowire, and amphipathic properties. (Amphiphilic) is used to include biomaterials such as organic matter, proteins, and DNA.
3 illustrates an embodiment of a method for patterning nanomaterials according to the present invention, wherein one
In this case, the voltage applied is generally AC alone or may include a voltage including both AC and DC, including at least dielectric phenomena. Can also be used with. While there are some areas that are not yet fully theoretical in this field, the forces used to move nanomaterials decisively when using only AC or using AC and DC are genophoretic and the DC-induced forces are assisted to more precisely align. It can be used.
Preferably, according to the present invention, in order to facilitate the attachment of nanomaterials, a chemical layer for improving adhesion on the electrode plate for the substrate may be applied in advance, and after the nanomaterial is attached to the substrate, the nano It is also possible to form a layer to allow the material to bond firmly to the substrate.
The former will be described in more detail as follows. In order to improve the bonding force between the nanomaterial and the electrode plate for the substrate, the nanomaterial adhesion surface of the substrate such that chemical bonding (eg, ionic bond, covalent bond, coordination bond, hydrogen bond, etc.) occurs between the electrode plate for the substrate and the nanomaterial. May be modified. FIG. 5 illustrates a case in which an
FIG. 6 illustrates a process of forming a layer for firmly bonding nanomaterials to a substrate after nanomaterials are attached to the substrate. In other words, after the
Preferably, when at least one concave portion is formed at a portion to which the nanomaterial may attach in the
For example, as shown in FIG. 8, a
In this anode etching process, one metal layer or two or more metal layers may be continuously applied to make holes up to several tens of nanometers in size, and in the case of CNT, those having a diameter of several tens of nanometers are suitable for aligning one by one. In addition, in order to use this as a source of a device such as FED, it is preferable that the bottom metal layer to which the nanotubes are connected and the CNT are firmly connected.
In addition, in order to raise the nanomaterial to a more uniform density on the electrode plate, it is desirable to evenly disperse the nanomaterial in the bath (solution) solution. For example, if the nanomaterial is agitated while the nanomaterial is attached to the electrode plate for the substrate, the nanomaterial can be raised to a more uniform density on the electrode plate. For this agitation, ultrasonication or magnetic agitation may be used.
For example, as shown in FIG. 5, a
According to the patterning method of the present invention, nanomaterials such as CNTs can be attached to the substrate in a very precise pattern. Using such a structure, it is possible to form a pattern for the field emission device or to coat a nanomaterial on an existing material as a composite material to change mechanical strength, modulate or improve chemical or physical properties. In particular, since the present method uses purified nanomaterials, it has a characteristic of easily controlling physical properties unlike conventional growth methods, and it is possible to form a pattern having a very uniform density in a large area in a large area.
The method can also be used to manufacture terminals that make up nanoelectronics, sensors that can react to chemical and biological external environments, and storage media that store energy such as hydrogen.
According to the present invention, it is possible to fabricate such nanostructures at a relatively low temperature such as room temperature, and to simultaneously pattern the size of a wider area than the 300 mm size, and there is an advantage in that the nanostructures can be manufactured in large quantities under the same conditions. . In addition, unlike other existing process methods, there are very few restrictions on the material constituting the nanopattern to be manufactured, so that various materials such as organic molecules, biochemical materials, and metal nanoparticles can be utilized, thereby enabling bioelectronics and molecules. It can be applied to make devices and patterns for a wide range of applications including Molectronics.
As described above, the present invention is to pattern nanomaterials having nanometer-sized domains on the substrate by genophoresis and chemical bonds such as coordination bonds, covalent bonds, ionic bonds, and hydrogen bonds. It is possible to attach it stably in the form, it can produce a size larger than the size used in the general semiconductor process at a time, there is an advantage that can be produced a variety of nano-materials without the limitation of the material, forming the existing pattern Compared to the method, it can be produced in large quantities, and at the same time, it is very inexpensive to manufacture, and also works at room temperature, so it is a new concept of patterning method of nanomaterial with advantages such as utilizing various substrates.
