Abstract

PURPOSE: An optical transmission/relay device between a web camera and a remote monitoring server and a remote monitoring system using the device are provided to rapidly transmit a video signal from the web camera to the remote monitoring server through a broadband optical cable. CONSTITUTION: An optical transmission/relay device between a web camera and a remote monitoring server includes the first, second and third optical connectors(513,501) connected to one of another optical transmission/relay device and remote monitoring server through the first and second optical cables, the first and second optical transceivers(511,503) for converting optical signals inputted from the first and second optical connectors into electric signals and converting electric signals into optical signals to output the optical signals to the first and second optical connectors, and the first and second physical layer processors(509,505) for interfacing signals transmitted/received between the first and second ports of an Ethernet switch(507) and the first and second optical transceivers. The device further includes an Ethernet connector(519) connected to the web camera, an Ethernet physical layer processor(515) for interfacing signals transmitted/received between the third port of the Ethernet switch and the Ethernet connector, and the Ethernet switch. The Ethernet switch switches a video signal received from the web camera through the Ethernet connector to at least one of the optical connectors to transmit the signal to one of the other optical transmission/relay device and remote monitoring server.
