Abstract

PURPOSE: A chiral salen catalyst and a process for preparing chiral compounds from racemic epoxy compounds using the same are provided, thereby reusing the chiral salen catalyst, and preventing racemization of the prepared chiral compounds. CONSTITUTION: A chiral salen catalyst is represented by the formula(1), wherein R1, R2, R'1, R'2 and R3 are ring structured carbocycle or heterocycle having 4 to 10 atoms; X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7 and X8 are independently hydrogen or t-butyl; Y1 and Y2 are independently hydrogen; M is a metal atom selected from Co, Cr, Mn, Fe, Mo and Ni; L is B or Al; Q is halogen atom; and n is an integer of 0 to 4. A process for preparing the chiral salen catalyst comprises reacting a compound of the formula(3) with 0.5 equivalence of LQ3.
