Abstract

PURPOSE: A discharge lamp of a flat type illumination device having a single discharge lamp is provided to construct the discharge lamp in such a manner that a plurality of straight discharge tubes used as a light source of a back light are connected to a single discharge path. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of straight discharge tubes(10,20,30) having various cut faces are arranged on a plane in parallel. Neighboring straight discharge tubes are connected to each other at the corner of the length direction so as to integrate all of the discharge tubes into one. A connector for connecting two neighboring discharge tubes with each other when the cut face of the discharge tubes is sealed is formed at one of the connection parts of both of the cut faces of the two discharge tubes. When the cut faces of the multiple discharge tubes are sealed, the integrated discharge tube forms a single discharge path.
