Abstract

PURPOSE: A cooling device of a water cooled engine for a vehicle is provided to improve the performance of the engine by controlling the temperature of the cooled water variably according to the rotational frequency of the engine. CONSTITUTION: A water jacket of an engine is connected with a radiator via a supply passage and a withdrawal passage for cooled water and the both passages are interconnected via a bypass passage. A water pump is installed at a connecting part of the withdrawal passage and the bypass passage. A casing(10) is installed rear part of a junction of the supply passage and the bypass passage. A partition(12) is installed at the center of the casing and divides the casing into two parts as a first passage(13a) and a second passage(13b). Thermostats(14a,14b) having different opening temperature are installed at the first and the second passages respectively. A diverter valve(15) is installed at the entrance of the casing to open and close the first and the second passages and is controlled by an ECU.
