Description

Polyphenylene Ether Resin Composition

The present invention relates to a polyphenylene ether resin composition, and more particularly, polyphenylene ether, modified polyolefin, modified polystyrene, styrene-based rubber resin and phosphonium-based catalyst, so that impact resistance, heat resistance, water resistance and molding The present invention relates to a polyphenylene ether resin composition having excellent properties.

Polyphenylene ether has excellent heat resistance and excellent mechanical strength, electrical properties, water resistance, flame retardancy, etc., and thus has various uses as an engineering plastic material. However, polyphenylene ether has a disadvantage of high moldability due to its high melt viscosity and poor solvent resistance and impact resistance. Therefore, polyphenylene ether alone cannot be used in applications requiring impact resistance such as automotive exterior materials.

Attempts have been made to blend polyolefins into polyphenylene ethers in order to improve moldability, solvent resistance and impact resistance to polyphenylene ether resins.

For example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 59-140,257 discloses a polyphenylene ether resin composition in which the compatibility of polyphenylene ether and polyolefin is increased by using a block copolymer of styrene rubber, which is an aromatic compound. However, even in this case, when the polyolefin-based resin is present in a large amount, its compatibility is not greatly increased, resulting in a phenomenon in which the final molded product is peeled in layers, and the impact strength of the resin composition is not significantly improved.

In addition, Japanese Patent Publication No. 2-173,136 discloses a modified polyolefin containing a hydroxyl group capable of reacting a modified polyphenylene ether having an epoxy-based reactor with an epoxy group in a resin composition composed of polyphenylene ether and polyolefin. Also added. In this patent, the compound produced by chemical bonding of modified polyphenylene ether and modified polyolefin is used as a compatibilizer to increase the compatibility between polyphenylene ether and polyolefin, thereby reducing the delamination phenomenon of the final molded product, impact resistance, To increase solvent resistance, water resistance and moldability. However, this modified polyphenylene ether synthesis is mainly obtained by reacting the hydroxyl group present at the terminal group of the polyphenylene ether with the chlorine group of epichlorohydrin, but the hydroxyl group present at the terminal group of the polyphenylene ether is polymerized under resin polymerization conditions. As a result, the amount of hydroxyl groups decreases, and thus, the synthesis of the modified polyphenylene ether is not easy. On the other hand, when the number of reactors of the modified polyolefin is large, the compatibility decreases. And since there is no rubber component, there is no big increase in impact strength.

The present invention increases the solvent resistance and formability by adding modified polyolefin to polyphenylene ether, and increases compatibility by adding modified polystyrene having an epoxy-based reactor which is relatively easy to synthesize, and also increases compatibility by reaction with modified polyolefin. It was completed by reinforcing impact strength by adding styrene rubber resin which can increase the compatibility between polyphenylene ether and polyolefin type.

Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a polyphenylene ether resin composition excellent in moldability, solvent resistance, compatibility, impact resistance and heat resistance.

The present invention relates to a polyphenylene ether-based resin composition containing polyphenylene ether and polyolefin, wherein 20 to 90% by weight of polyphenylene ether and 80 to 10% by weight of modified polyolefin having an ester group are used as the basic resin. 1 to 30 parts by weight of epoxy-based modified polystyrene, 1 to 50 parts by weight of a styrene rubber resin having a double bond, and 0.0001 to 10 parts by weight of a phosphonium catalyst are contained per 100 parts by weight.

Referring to the present invention in more detail as follows.

The polyphenylene ether-based resin composition according to the present invention contains polyphenylene ether, modified polyolefin, epoxy-modified polystyrene, styrene rubber resin and phosphonium-based catalyst in specific content ratios, so that the polyphenylene ether has excellent properties. It has the superiority of greatly improving moldability, solvent resistance and impact resistance while maintaining physical properties.

Polyphenylene ether resin is mainly used for the purpose of improving heat resistance.

The modified polyolefin resin is used for improving workability and solvent resistance, and for strengthening impact resistance. The modified polyolefin resin in the present invention is a resin into which an ester group is introduced by treating a polyolefin with carboxylic acid, maleic anhydride, or the like, and the reactivity with modified polystyrene used as a compatibilizer is increased due to the ester group.

Modified polystyrene is a reactive resin containing 1 to 20% by weight of an epoxy-based polar group, thereby reacting with the modified polyolefin to form a block or graft copolymer, thereby increasing compatibility of the polyphenylene ether with the modified polyolefin. For example, modified polystyrene can be prepared by conventional suspension polymerization of styrene monomer and glycidyl methacrylate monomer.

Styrene-based rubber resin is for reinforcing impact strength. It contains a double bond and the styrene-based and olefin-based polymer is present in the form of a block to increase the compatibility of the polyphenylene ether component and the modified polyolefin component, and also to enhance the impact strength due to the rubber phase.

The phosphonium catalyst is added to control the degree of reaction between the reactive resin, that is, the modified polystyrene and the modified polyolefin. Specific examples of the phosphonium catalyst used in the present invention include ethyltriphenylphosphonium bromide, tetraethylphosphonium bromide, and tetraphenylphosphonium bromide. .

The physical properties of the polyphenylene ether-based resin composition of the present invention composed of the composition components as described above may vary greatly depending on the composition ratio.

The polyphenylene ether and the modified polyolefin contained as the basic resin constituting the polyphenylene ether resin composition of the present invention maintain the range of 20 to 90:10 to 80% by weight. If the content of the polyphenylene ether as the base resin is less than 20% by weight, the heat resistance is poor, and if it exceeds 90% by weight there is a problem that the workability is lowered. In addition, when the content of the modified polyolefin is less than 10% by weight, the workability and solvent resistance are worse, and when the content of the modified polyolefin is more than 80% by weight, the heat resistance is lowered and the dimensional stability is lowered.

The base resin composed of polyphenylene ether and modified polyolefin contains modified polystyrene, styrene rubber resin and phosphonium catalyst. The modified polystyrene is contained in an amount of 1 to 30 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the basic resin. If the content is less than 1 part by weight, the compatibility is not increased. Styrene-based rubber resin contains 1 to 50 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the basic resin, if the content is less than 1 part by weight has no impact strength reinforcement effect, if it exceeds 50 parts by weight has a disadvantage in that the heat resistance is lowered and the price increases . In addition, the phosphonium catalyst contains 0.0001 to 10 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the basic resin, but if the content is less than 0.0001 parts by weight, it does not have an additive effect as a catalyst, and when it exceeds 10 parts by weight, the mechanical strength of the final molded product is lowered. This raises the issue of price increases.

The polyphenylene ether resin composition of the present invention as described above is melt mixed in various mixers such as single screw extruders, twin screw extruders, short-barrier mixers, roll mixers, brabender mixers, and the like, and cooled to obtain final products.

Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the Examples as follows, the present invention is not limited by the Examples.
