Description

[Embodiment 29] A method of identifying a patient as suitable for a method of treating Alzheimer's disease as defined in any of embodiments 1 and 3 to 24, or a method of preventing neuroaxonal damage as defined in any of embodiments 2 to 24, the method comprising assessing the amyloid status of the patient using a CSF marker, a plasma marker and/or an imaging marker prior to treatment with a binding member, and if the amyloid status of the patient is amyloid positive, then the patient is identified as suitable for a method of treating Alzheimer's disease or a method of preventing neuroaxonal damage.
[0030] The method further comprises assessing (i) a tau status, (ii) a neurodegenerative status, or (iii) a tau status and a neurodegenerative status of the patient prior to treatment with the binding member, wherein CSF markers and/or imaging markers are independently selected for tau and/or neurodegeneration, and the patient

(b) Negative for neurodegeneration or
(c) Tau-negative and neurodegeneration-negative;
(d) Tau positive or
(e) Neurodegeneration positive or
(f) Tau positive and neurodegeneration positive
(g) tau positive and neurodegeneration negative, or
(h) The method of embodiment 29, wherein the patient is identified as suitable for a method of treating Alzheimer's disease or a method of preventing neuroaxonal damage if tau-negative and neurodegeneration-positive.
[Embodiment 31] (a) (i) the CSF marker for amyloid is Aβ1-42 in the CSF, (ii) the CSF marker for tau is phosphorylated tau in the CSF, and/or (iii) the CSF marker for neurodegeneration is total tau in the CSF, and/or
(b) the imaging marker for amyloid is amyloid imaging, (ii) the imaging marker for tau is tau imaging, and/or (iii) the imaging marker for neurodegeneration is nuclear magnetic resonance imaging or fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography.
The method of embodiment 29 or 30.
[Embodiment 32] A kit comprising (i) a binding member that selectively binds to human amyloid beta 1-42 peptide (Aβ1-42) and (ii) an antibody that specifically binds to NfL, optionally wherein the binding member that selectively binds to human Aβ1-42 is an antibody defined in any of embodiments 12 to 17.
