Traditional wearable electronic devices, such as smart watches, GPS navigation devices, and fitness trackers, utilize touch screens to provide a user interface to the user of the electronic device. Battery life is important in these devices because space is limited. Batteries may need to be charged periodically, and it can be uncomfortable for the user to stop wearing the device to recharge. There have been some attempts to equip smartwatches with translucent solar panels, such as using individual solar cells placed on or above the watch's display. However, the placement of photovoltaic cells on mobile devices, watches, tablets, or other portable electronic devices can be shaded by the user, the user's clothing, trees, etc. In a multi-cell system, if a first cell is more or less shaded than a second cell, power generation efficiency will be reduced.
