Claims (15)

receiving control signaling indicating a truncation configuration for truncating one or more fields of an initial identification indicator, wherein said one or more fields of said initial identification indicator are a network capability identifier field and a UE a step including an identifier field ;
generating a truncated identity indicator for the UE according to the truncation configuration by removing one or more bits from the initial identity indicator;
and C. transmitting said truncation identification indicator to a base station.

receiving, by the base station, a truncation identification indicator based at least in part on the truncation configuration.
