A composition according to item 1, further comprising a solid lubricant.

The composition of item 1, wherein said quaternary ammonium silane salt is a chloride.

The composition of item 1, wherein said quaternary ammonium silane is present from 0.5 total weight percent to 75 total weight percent.

A composition according to any one of items 1 to 5, wherein said solvent comprises a C 1 -C 4 alcohol.

A composition according to any one of items 1 to 5, wherein said solvent is isopropanol.

6. The composition of any one of items 1-5, wherein the solvent is present from 25 total weight percent to 99.5 total weight percent.

3. The composition of item 2, wherein said one or more mineral spirits is present at 15 total weight percent.

4. The composition of item 3, wherein the solid lubricant is graphite powder.

The composition of item 3, wherein said solid lubricant is present from 0 total weight percent to 30 total weight percent.

A kit for creating a hydrophobic coating on a surface, comprising:
An applicator having an applicator surface and a non-volatile layer formed from the composition of any one of items 1-5, wherein the non-volatile layer is attached to the applicator surface or the an applicator applied to the applicator surface and instructions for contacting the applicator surface with the surface to create a hydrophobic film having a water contact angle of 60 degrees or greater;

a hydrophobic elastomeric substrate bonded to a windshield wiper arm and shaped as a wiper blade insert adapted to engage the windshield;
a non-volatile layer having a thickness of 0.5 microns to 500 microns and formed by evaporating the solvent from the composition of item 1;

14. A wiper blade according to item 13, wherein the non-volatile layer is applied to both sides of the wiping lip of the substrate in an amount ranging from 0.001 g to 0.1 g per centimeter of length per side.

14. A wiper blade according to item 13, wherein said non-volatile layer has a storage stability of more than 1 month at a temperature of -50°C to 65°C.

14. A wiper blade according to item 13, wherein the substrate is formed of a material of at least chloroprene rubber, natural rubber, silicone or any combination thereof.

A method of activating a windshield, comprising:
contacting the windshield with a wiper blade insert coated with the composition of any one of items 1-5;
activating the windshield by wiping to a water repellency with a water contact angle greater than 60 degrees within 2000 wiping cycles, wet, dry, or a combination of wet and dry;
