a plurality of randomly oriented fibers; and
a thermosetting aqueous binder composition that at least partially coats the fibers, the binder composition comprising:
at least one long chain polyol having at least two hydroxyl groups and a number average molecular weight of at least 2,000 Daltons;
a crosslinker containing at least two carboxylic acid groups; and
a short chain polyol having at least two hydroxyl groups and a number average molecular weight of less than 2,000 Daltons, wherein the ratio of long chain polyol to short chain polyol is 0.1/0.9 to 0.9/0.1; A fibrous insulation product.
[2] The fibrous insulation product according to [1] above, wherein the fibers include one or more of mineral fibers, natural fibers and synthetic fibers.
[3] The fibrous insulating material product according to [1] above, wherein the fibers include glass fibers or mineral wool fibers.
[4] The fibrous insulation product of [1] above, which is a low density insulation product having a density between 0.1 and 0.56 square foot mass.
[5] The fibrous insulation product of [4] above, wherein the low density insulation product has a thickness of between 0.5 and 25 inches.
[6] The fibrous insulation product according to [4] above, wherein the low-density insulation product is insulation batt, insulation blanket, duct wrap or metal building insulation.
[7] The fibrous insulation product of [1] above, which is a high-density insulation product having a density between 1.0 and 10 lbs/ft 3 .
[8] The fibrous insulation product of [7] above, wherein the high density insulation product has a thickness between 0.2 and 5.0 inches.
[9] The fibrous insulation product of [7] above, wherein the high-density insulation product comprises wall or ceiling insulation, pipe or reservoir insulation, duct board, industrial board, or acoustic board.
[10] The fibrous insulation product of [1], further comprising one or more reinforcing or scrim materials adhered to the fibrous insulation product.
[11] The fibrous insulation product according to [1] above, which has a binder LOI of between 0.5% and 9%.
[12] The fibrous insulation product of [1] above, having a binder LOI of between 2.0% and 7.0%.
[13] The fibrous heat insulating material product according to [1] above, wherein the binder composition has a molar equivalent ratio of carboxylic acid groups to hydroxyl groups of 1/0.05 to 1.0/5.0.
[14] A ceiling board product comprising a fibrous insulation product,
Fibrous insulation products are
a plurality of randomly oriented fibers; and
an aqueous binder composition that at least partially coats the fibers, the binder composition comprising:
at least one long chain polyol having at least two hydroxyl groups and a number average molecular weight of at least 2,000 Daltons;
a crosslinker containing at least two carboxylic acid groups; and
a short chain polyol having at least two hydroxyl groups and a number average molecular weight of less than 2,000 Daltons, wherein the ratio of long chain polyol to short chain polyol is 0.1/0.9 to 0.9/0.1; There is a ceiling board product.
[15] The ceiling board product of [14] above, wherein the fibrous insulation product contains glass fibers having a diameter between 35HT and 50HT.
[16] The ceiling board product of [14] above, wherein the fibrous insulation product contains between 8% and 16% binder LOI.
[17] The ceiling board product of [14] above, having a finished ceiling tile sag rating of less than 0.3″ under both ambient and hot/humid conditions.
[18] The ceiling board product of [14] above, which achieves a flame spread of 5 or less according to ASTM E84.
[19] A duct board product,
a fibrous insulation product having a first major surface and a second major surface opposite said first major surface, said fibrous insulation product comprising:
a plurality of randomly oriented fibers; and
an aqueous binder composition that at least partially coats the fibers, the binder composition comprising:
at least one long chain polyol having at least two hydroxyl groups and a number average molecular weight of at least 2,000 Daltons;
a crosslinker containing at least two carboxylic acid groups; and
a short chain polyol having at least two hydroxyl groups and a number average molecular weight of less than 2,000 Daltons, wherein the ratio of long chain polyol to short chain polyol is 0.1/0.9 to 0.9/0.1; There is a duct board product.
[20] The duct board product of [19] above, wherein the fibrous insulation product comprises glass fibers having a diameter between 20HT and 80HT.
[21] The duct board product of [19] above, wherein said fibrous insulation product comprises a density of between 2.0 lbs/ft 3 and 6.0 lbs/ft 3 .
[22] The duct board product of [19] above, wherein said fibrous insulation product comprises a density of between 3.2 lbs/ft 3 and 5.3 lbs/ft 3 .
[23] The duct board product of [19] above, wherein said fibrous insulation product has a thickness of between 0.5 and 5.0 inches.
[24] The duct board product of [19] above, wherein the fibrous insulation product comprises between 13% and 23% binder LOI.
[25] The duct board product according to [19], further comprising a decorative finish adhered to the first main surface.
[26] The duct board product of [25] above, wherein the decorative finish comprises a coated fiber mat decorative finish or a foil scrim kraft paper (FSK) decorative finish.
[27] The duct board product according to [19] above, further comprising a veil adhered to the second main surface.
[28] The duct board product of [27] above, wherein the veil comprises a fiberglass veil comprising glass fibers having a diameter of between 10 and 15 μm.
