Also provided are kits for use in practicing the methods as described above. The term "kit" refers to a packaged delivery device or components thereof, eg, ampoules as described above. In addition to the components described above, the kit may further include instructions for using the components of the kit, eg, for performing the subject method. The instructions are usually recorded on a suitable recording medium. For example, the instructions may be printed on a substrate such as paper or plastic. Thus, instructions may be included in the kit as a package content or may be on the label of a container of the kit or a component thereof (i.e., associated with the package or sub-package). In other embodiments, the instructions reside as electronically stored data files on a suitable computer-readable storage medium such as a CD-ROM, floppy disk, hard disk drive (HDD), portable flash drive, or the like. In still other embodiments, physical instructions are not provided with the kit, but means are provided for obtaining the instructions remotely, such as via the Internet. An example of this embodiment is a kit that includes a web address where the instructions can be viewed or downloaded. As with the instructions, the means for obtaining the instructions are recorded on a suitable substrate.
It should be noted that the present invention includes the following aspects.
[Aspect 1]
A device for delivering fluid to an eye of a patient, comprising:
a fluid package comprising a reservoir configured to hold said fluid, an opening, and a valve member configured to seal said opening when said fluid is not being expelled through said opening;
an actuator configured to expel the fluid through the opening by imparting mechanical vibrations to the valve member and/or walls of the reservoir.

Aspect 1. Aspect 1, wherein the actuator is configured to oscillate a distal end of the valve member into and out of engagement with the opening to expel the fluid from the opening. Device.
[Aspect 3]
Aspect 1. The apparatus of aspect 1, wherein the actuator is configured to create a pressure variation in the fluid sufficient to pass the valve member and expel the fluid from the opening.
[Aspect 4]
A device according to aspect 1, wherein the fluid is preservative-free eye drops.

A device according to aspect 1, wherein the reservoir is a multi-dose reservoir.
[Aspect 6]
2. The device of aspect 1, wherein the front valve member has a conical tip that engages the opening.

2. The device of aspect 1, wherein the valve member has the rounded tip that engages the opening.
[Aspect 8]
2. The device of aspect 1, wherein the valve member has a tip that engages the aperture, the tip comprising an antimicrobial material.

Aspect 1. The device of aspect 1, wherein the opening comprises an antimicrobial material.
[Aspect 10]
Aspect 1. The apparatus of aspect 1, wherein the actuator comprises an electromagnetic transducer disposed on an outer surface of the reservoir and configured to induce vibration of at least a portion of a wall of the reservoir.
[Aspect 11]
11. The apparatus of aspect 10, wherein the actuator is configured to expel the fluid from the opening by vibrating to cause pressure fluctuations in the fluid.
[Aspect 12]
2. Aspect 1. Aspect 1, wherein the fluid package includes a resilient diaphragm configured to retain a tip of the valve member in engagement with the opening when the fluid is not expelled through the opening. Device.

A device according to aspect 1, configured to deliver a dose of 1-15 μL.

A device according to aspect 1, configured to deliver a dose at 150 mm/sec or less.
