Sは、物質のゼーベック係数を表し、
σは、物質の電気伝導率、および
κは、熱伝導率κを表す。
ZTが高いほど熱電変換効率は高い。
ここで、
前記熱電変換材料はBiF3型の結晶構造を有し、
前記熱電変換材料はp型の極性を有し、かつ
以下の数式(I)〜(III)のいずれか1つが充足される。
0≦a≦0.0001、かつ−a+0.0003≦b≦0.023 (I);
0.0001≦a<0.0003、かつ−a+0.0003≦b≦exp[−0.046×(ln(a))2−1.03×ln(a)−9.51] (II);または

具体的には、その範囲において、性能指数ZTの値は0.44以上である。表1を参照せよ。
本開示の熱電変換材料の製造方法の一例が、非特許文献1および非特許文献8の開示内容に基づいて以下に説明される。
本実施形態において、本開示のLi3-aBi1-bSib結晶物質に温度差を印加することで電力が得られる。
以下、実施例を参照しながら、本開示の熱電変換材料がさらに詳細に説明される。
非特許文献1は、Li3Bi結晶物質の結晶構造がBiF3型構造に属することを開示している。X線結晶回折法による測定に基づき、BiF3型構造のX線回折ピークを確認する事ができる。図2は、ソフトウェア(RIETAN、入手先URL:http://fujioizumi.verse.jp/download/download.html)を用いてLi3Biの結晶構造因子Fおよび積分回折強度Iを計算することにより得られたLi3Bi結晶構造の回折X線強度分布を示すグラフである。

riは結晶中の原子の位置ベクトルを表し、
fiはriの位置にある原子の原子散乱因子を表し、かつ
Δkは散乱前後におけるX線の波数ベクトルの差を表す。

Ieは1個の電子の散乱強度を表し、
Nは結晶中の単位格子の数を表し、
Lは吸引因子を含み、かつ実験条件に依存する係数を表す。
本発明者らは、密度汎関数法(以下、「DFT」という)に基づいた計算により、Li3Bi結晶物質のバンド構造を計算した。その結果、本発明者らは、Li3Bi結晶物質は半導体であるという結果を得た。DFTによる計算には、本発明者らは、第一原理電子状態計算プログラム(Vienna Ab initio Simulation Package、入手先:https://www.vasp.at/)を使用した。このプログラムは、以下において、「VASP」と称される。

Edefectは欠陥が存在する場合の全エネルギーを表し、
Epureは欠陥が存在しない場合の完全結晶の全エネルギーを表し、
niは欠陥によるi番目の構成元素の増減量を表し、
μiはi番目の元素の化学ポテンシャルを表し、
qは欠陥が有する電荷量を表し、
EVBMは半導体であるLi3Biの価電子帯上端の1電子エネルギーを表し、かつ
EFは電子のフェルミエネルギーを表す。

Nsiteは考慮している欠陥が生じうるサイトの体積密度を表し、
kbはボルツマン定数を表し、かつ
Tは絶対温度を表す。

ここで、
DVB(E)およびDCB(E)は、それぞれ、DFT計算によって得られる価電子帯および伝導帯の電子状態密度を表し、
f(E;EF)はフェルミ分布関数を表し、かつ
Tは熱電変換特性の評価を実施する絶対温度を表す。
全キャリアの電荷密度Qeは、数式Qe=e×(n−p)に従って算出された。eは、1電子の持つ電荷である。
熱電変換効率は、材料の性能指数ZTによって決定される。ZTは以下の関係式(8)により定義される。

Sはゼーベック係数を表し、
σは電気伝導率を表し、
Tは評価環境の絶対温度を表し、
κeは電子の熱伝導率を表し、かつ
κlatは格子熱伝導率を表す。
S、σ、およびκeについてはVASPコードとBoltzTraPコード(非特許文献4)とを使用し、ボルツマン輸送理論に基づく評価が行われた。σを決定する際のパラメータである電子の緩和時間τは、以下の移動度μに関する関係式(9)と非特許文献5に開示されている理論式(10)とを連立して解く事により計算された。 μ=eτ/m*・・・(9)

ここで、
eは電荷素量を表し、
m*はキャリアの有効質量を表し、
Bは弾性定数を表し、かつ
gは変形ポテンシャルを表す。
m*、B、およびgの値は、VASPコードを用いた密度汎関数法により計算された。gの値は、非特許文献6に開示されている関係式g=−Δε/(Δl/l)により計算された。Δεは、格子定数lをΔl変化させた時のバンド端エネルギー準位の変化量である。

Mは平均原子質量を表し、
vは縦波音波速度を表し、
Vは1原子辺りの体積を表し、かつ
nは単位胞内に含まれる原子の数を表す。
計算において、非特許文献5に開示されているA1およびA2の値が使用された。
上記手法により得たLi3-aBi1-bSibのBiF3型結晶構造が最も安定である組成範囲において、熱電変換特性を本発明者らは評価した。表1は、実施例1〜10、比較例1〜3および参考例1〜4の300Kにおける熱電変換特性の予測結果を示している。

Claims (3)
- 化学式Li3-aBi1-bSibで表される組成を有する熱電変換材料。
前記熱電変換材料はBiF3型の結晶構造を有し、
前記熱電変換材料はp型の極性を有し、かつ
以下の数式(I)〜(III)のいずれか1つが充足される。
0≦a≦0.0001、かつ−a+0.0003≦b≦0.023 (I);
0.0001≦a<0.0003、かつ−a+0.0003≦b≦exp[−0.046×(ln(a))2−1.03×ln(a)−9.51] (II);または
0.0003≦a≦0.085、かつ0<b≦exp[−0.046×(ln(a))2−1.03×ln(a)−9.51] (III) - 請求項1に記載の熱電変換材料であって、
a=0、かつ0.0003≦b≦0.023である。 - 熱電変換材料を用いて電力を得る方法であって、
前記方法では、前記熱電変換材料に温度差を印加して電力を生じる工程を具備し、
前記熱電変換材料は、
化学式Li3-aBi1-bSibにより表される組成を有し、
