Receiving the LME loopback data from the optical transmission line in response to the first LME test signal,
Comparing the LME loopback data with the baseline loopback data to obtain the first failure signature,
Analyzing the first failure signature using a first failure classifier that indicates a failure if the first failure signature matches a given failure signature, the first failure classifier. Is a machine learning algorithm trained using the given fault signature.
A method comprising reporting a fault in the optical communication system when the first fault classifier indicates said fault.
