Abstract

PURPOSE:To readily, efficiently and economically obtain high-purity acetic acid usable as an additive, etc., for detergents in silicon wafers, etc., in the electronic industry, by purifying acetic acid, such as glacial acetic acid, using a readily available specific ion exchange polymer. CONSTITUTION:A giant network structure-type cation exchange polymer having a styrene based or phenolic basic skeleton and preferably sulfonic acid groups as cation exchange groups is previously dipped and treated in an acetic acid solution at ambient temperature for >=a night, etc., to remove acetic acid-soluble substances. An acetic acid solution in a high concentration, such as glacial acetic acid, is purified by using the a bove-mentioned cation exchange polymer above the solidifying point temperature (16.6 deg.C) of the acetic acid, preferably 20-60 deg.C at 5-10 or below liquid flow velocity expressed in terms of S.V. value (a numerical value obtained by dividing the liquid flow rate per hr by the column volume) to afford high-purity acetic acid.
