Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the title copolymer excellent in heat resistance, flowability, toughness and solvent resistance and low in anisotropy of the molding shrinkage, by copolymerizing 3-methylbutene-1 with other 3-30C alpha-olefin in the presence of a stereoregular polymerization catalyst and H2 under specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:Copolymerization of 3-methylbutene-1 is started in the presence of a stereoregular polymerization catalyst (e.g., a catalyst complex of diethylaluminium chloride with solid titanium trichloride) and a solvent under an ordinary pressure - 30atm. of hydrogen pressure at 0-130 deg.C. Another 3-30C alpha-olefin (e.g., propylene) is intermittently supplied at every 2-20min with the ratio thereof to the amount of all the comonomers supplied of 1/200-1/20 until the copolymerization is completed to produce 3-methylbutene-1 copolymer having high flowability of which elongation at breakage, E%, and Vicat softening point, V deg.C, satisfy the relation of formula I (wherein alpha is defined by formula II; MI is the melt index of the copolymer and is 10-1,000g/10min).
