Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a high-level radioactive waste to a small amount, by getting a used ion exchange resin immersed into an eluate to elute cesium and/or strontium adsorbed on the used ion exchange resin stirring up the eluate. CONSTITUTION:A used ion exchange resin used for cleaning a nuclear reactor primary system having a high-level reactivity is placed into a tank 7 and an eluting agent is supplied to adjust the eluate to the density of 1mol./l. Then, a top liquid 5 containing cesium and strontium eluted is withdrawn with a transfer pump 6 to be supplied to a zeolite floor 3 filled with zeolite to remove cesium and strontium by selective adsorption. In the zeolite floor, a NaOH aqueous solution is used as eluate to elute <134>Cs, <137>Cs and <90>Sr. Then, cesium and strontium is made to adsorb on the zeolite and the eluate passing through the zeolite adsorption floor 3 is fed to a tank 7 for a used resin again thereby reducing the amount of zeolite significantly as compared to the used resin.
