Abstract

PURPOSE:To make heat generated when a solid electrolyte tube was broken absorb to ensure safety by filling a substance which conducts endothermic reaction with at least one of sodium and sulfur in a battery container in which an anode active material having sodium as an essential component and a cathode active material having sulfur as an essential component are accommodated. CONSTITUTION:A solid electrolyte tube 1 made of stainless steel is put in a battery container 7, and an anode active material 4 having sodium as an essential component is filled therein. A gap 7 which incorporates a mesh 10 is formed in the outer circumference of the electrolyte tube 1, and a cathode active material 5 having sulfur as an essential component is filled outside the gap 3. Powder 8 such as Na2S6, which conducts endthermic reaction with at least one of the cathode active material and the anode active material, surrounded by mesh 10 is filled in the gap 3. The inner wall ot the electrolyte tube 1 is used as a sodium storage part 9, and an electrically insulated wire 11 is drawn out from the upper end of the tube 1. The heat generated by the reaction of sodium and sulfur when the tube 1 was broken is absorbed.
