Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect registration characteristics with high accuracy by detecting a subscan misalignment image and a main scan misregistration image which have been formed separately by the number of picture elements which are set arbitrary in the main scanning direction and by a picture element number portion in the sub-scanning direction. CONSTITUTION:When the number of write picture elements in the main scanning direction to an image memory against a misregistration detecting image detected by misregistration detecting means 2R, 2L is set arbitrarily by a main scanning direction picture element number setting means 1, a subscanning direction picture element number setting means sets the number of write picture elements in the subscanning direction to the image memory against the misregistration detecting image detected by the misregistration detecting means 2R, 2L by being subordinate to the number of write picture elements in the main scanning direction set by the main scanning direction picture element number setting means 1.
