Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable both effects of deodorization and sterilization to be continued for a specified period of time by a method wherein a purifying device comprised of a lamp for radiating an ultra-violet ray and an ozone generating beam and a box member forming a photocatalyst layer at an opposing surface of the lamp are mounted at a part of an air circulating passage. CONSTITUTION: When cold air passing within a purifying device 8 arranged at a cold air returning port 7a passes through a cold air passage 7 and reaches a cleaning device 4, it is mixed with the cold air circulated in a freezing chamber 2 and returning, so that the cold air passing through the purifying device 8 is expanded within an entire area of a freezer and refrigerator 1. Photocatalyst layers are formed at inner surfaces of covers 11, 12 arranged to cover the lamp 10 installed at the central part within the purifying device 8. This optical catalyst is a substance for changing an optical energy into a chemical energy and this is a semiconductor. The optical catalyst layer is excited by ultra-violet beam, OH radicals appear at the surface of the optical catalyst layer to oxidized and decompose bad odor constituents to attain a deodorizing effect and at the same time cold air within the refrigerator is changed into air containing a large amount of ozone by the ozone generating beam radiated from the lamp 10, sterilization effect can be attained and deodorization and sterilization effects can be maintained for a long period of time.
