Abstract

PURPOSE:To form the friction material composition for a disk pad, clutch facing or the like excellent in high speed abrasion characteristics by letting all the composition contain 0.5-20vol.% manganese dioxide and/or potassium permanganate therein. CONSTITUTION:0.5-20vol.% manganese dioxide and/or potassium permanganate is added to friction material composition. This organization leads to the formation of material excellent in high speed abrasion characteristics without spoiling high speed characteristics. Suitable friction material composition should have a content of 0.5-20vol.% manganese dioxide and/or potassium permanganate, and less than 0.5vol.% content will not achieve the object of this invention. And more than 20vol.% content will cause the rise of cost due to the increase of the consumption of raw material. Desirable friction material is, although there is not limitation particularly, required to use manganese dioxide and/or potassium permanganate of a grain size of 100 mesh or less.
