Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a coating layer of Fe-Ni-Cr alloy excellent in heat resistance and corrosion resistance, by subjecting the surface of an iron and steel member to double layer plating treatment with Cr and Ni and then heating the above in a molten salt bath of borax, etc., to diffuse Cr and Ni into the surface of the iron and steel member. CONSTITUTION:The surface of an iron and steel member 1 is previously subjected to treatment such as degreasing and derusting, and then, a double plating layer 2 consisting of an Ni plating layer of 2-6mu thickness and a Cr plating layer of 4-15mu thickness is formed on the above surface 1', which is immersed in a molten salt bath composed of borax or a mixture of borax and boric acid and heat-treated at 750-950 deg.C for 1-4hr. By the above treatment, a part of Ni and also a part of Cr are allowed to diffuse into the surface 1' of the iron and steel member by the catalysis of boron and an Fe-Ni-Cr alloy layer consisting of 8% Ni, 18% Cr, and the balance Fe can be formed, by which heat resistance and corrosion resistance at the iron and steel member surface can be improved.
