Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which can improve nonuniformity in display elements by admixing an adsorbent to a liquid crystal composition and separating the adsorbent to remove trace amounts of contaminants by adsorption. CONSTITUTION:An adsorbent, preferably silica gel, alumina, porous polymer, ion-exchange resin, or activated carbon, is added to a liquid crystal composition, dispersed by stirring, preferably under reduced pressure, especially lower than 10mmHg, for about 1-24hr. Then, the adsorbent is separated to remove trace amounts of undesired contaminants for display elements selectively to give the subject composition. The adsorption process is preferably carried out in 2 or more stages.
